Nomination Meeting for Harris Riding Set

Monday, November 3, 2014 @ 5:00 AM

Prince George, B.C. – It has only been 2 and a half weeks since MP Dick Harris announced he would not be seeking re-election for Cariboo -Prince George, but the  nomination machinery is grinding away.

Those seeking the nomination have been advised they have to have their nomination packages in by November 13th,  their  memberships delivered to Ottawa by November 20th, and be prepared for  the nomination meeting that will be held in Prince George on December 15th.

The Chair of the Nomination Committee, Robert Thew, oversees the process  of the nomination for candidates in the Cariboo- Prince George federal riding.

250News contacted him to  find out who was on the nominating committee,  but Thew  wouldn’t share that information ” I’d prefer not to answer that question” said  Thew, who then advised 250News will have to contact the party’s national office in Ottawa for that information.

Committee members who sit on the nomination committee must provide a written affirmation that states in part;” That I will remain impartial as a member of the Candidate Nomination Committee.”

Thew is amongst a group of people elected to the board and the executive during the riding association’s most recent annual general meeting.  Many of the  people in that group  were supporters of Shari Green in her Mayoral bid. Thew says he had not served as a director in the riding before, that this is his first time sitting as a director having been elected at the May meeting.

Thew says he has neither attempted nor sold any memberships on behalf of Green, although it is known that at least one board member has been approaching citizens in the riding trying to sell memberships in support of Green.

There is another  twist in the  nomination, as  T.J,. Grewal,  who has yet to announce his intentions publicly, has learned  he is just  7 days short of his eligibility  to be a candidate.  He signed up as a party member May 20th, and the nomination packages have to be  in  November 13th,  one week before his  name would automatically stand.  The  head of the nomination committee says any decision as to whether TJ Grewal will be eligible to seek the nomination will be made by the national body in Ottawa.

The new President of the riding association, Cameron Stolz,  has been a strong supporter of Shari Green’s at the  City Council level.

This will likely get me in trouble but the nomination is a joke. TJ may not be my favorite but the timing is suspect. Right from not announcing to anyone that it start so only Sharri would have time, to taking over the EDO.
Brilliant strategy but not the type of politics I thought we had in Canada.
I guess now the only one who will be approved will be Shari and they will only be able to vote in PG. What a joke.
So Shari will be our next MP. Scary. Good luck to anyone but Shari.
But this is Canada and no one seems to care.

Even if she got the nomination nod, which I doubt because Harris has specifically endorsed Todd Doherty, she would still have to garner the votes. I don’t really see that happening and I think hardline conservatives will keep it from happening because she is a divisive person. Like Harris said, they want someone in place without political baggage.

Well this is just what I warned you about folks! Over the past few weeks there have been countless requests sent to the EDA president Cameron Stolz to produce the original AGM notification that was suppose to be sent out to ALL members back in May. All have been ignored, if they cannot prove their legitimacy, it appears the membership was indeed disenfranchised. The EDA board controlled by Greens people are now making quick decisions that they have no business making, all in the best interest of their preferred candidate . .
To all fair minded conservatives up and down the riding of PG Caribou. I suggest you call your riding president Cameron Stolz today and officially protest! IMO you’ve just been bamboozled!

Not likely this will be turned around at this point unless the courts get involved so get your memberships in today! Best to do it online at this point! Lets fight this at the nomination poll, and send this woman and the rest of her dysfunctional circle of clowns packing for good. Even if you are not a conservative and don’t hold a membership with any other federal party or provincial NDP and you live in the PG Caribou riding you are eligible (14 years and up) for a membership to vote. Bad things happen when good people do nothing!

Should be interesting to follow at some point, maybe, possibly. Maybe Harper wants Green, if so Green wins and the way people vote here unless there is a strong liberal candidate she will be your next MP… to funny.

If that’s the case, millman55… perhaps its time to bring back the Reform banner! Harper’s gone awol on his principals and Green/Stolz are leading the parade! The last time I checked this was OUR Conservative party not Ottawas!

Well Cicero, have to check out the players here and Ottawa boys call the shots in the end. They view this so far as a safe seat and could care less what people here think about Green. Its all about winning and who best to sing the harper song sheet.

Fully agree with Cicero. The best advise is get your membership now and go and vote. We do have to unite behind a candidate without political baggage . Ex this, ex that candidates. One endorsed by Dick Harris who might have falsely thought it’s the guy that can beat Green and a candidate that joins the Conservative party last minute ???!! Check out Nick Fedorkiw , solid, integer, well rounded education. He listens better than selling himself. No worn out political slogans there. Fedorkiw will listen to us.

I wonder if the vote date was selected as Shari’s power at the city ends November 15th. Up to which point everyone at the city would be nervous to come out in favor of anyone but Shari. Just a theory, but interesting given the sudden departure of a Games Revenue Director.
I am still not convinced this was a voluntary departure and if it was, was he told volunteered. If the rumours are true it is not good.

What’s most mind-numbing is the fact that the general consensus is if Shari wins the conservative Nomination, she will be our MP… Do people realize the actual election have different choices? I understand supporting your party, but enough so to cut your own nose off? If Shari is what the conservatives are serving up for us, then how about we consider another party. It’s unbelievable most people would still blindly vote conservative when we know how weak she is.

****The best laid plans of mice and men oft times go awry****

Sherri should be looking at some other form of work. A politician she is not. She was able to prove that conclusively as Mayor of PG.

If she gets the nomination she runs the risk of losing the riding. She and her cohorts don’t seem able to gauge the lack of support that she has from Joe/Jane Citizen.

It is not up to the courts but up to the people of this riding to take action. We can assume anything and everything, the fact remains that if we want to be heard WE MUST get in our memberships in order to vote in this up-coming nomination.
Todd Doherty is the person to replace Dick Harris, get your membership by going on line http://www.conservative.ca fax it in at 1-613-755-2001.
Remember a vote for Shari Green is a vote for the Liberal or the NDP!
It is time for us to take action and do more than complain about what she has done and NOT DONE.
Memberships are $15, these have to be in by November 15th.

“She and her cohorts don’t seem able to gauge the lack of support that she has from Joe/Jane Citizen.”

I am very delighted to hear that! Go ahead and run, make my day! Joe.

I have been a card – carrying Conservative in this riding for over forty years and am one of the many left off Sheri’s list for the AGM last spring.

The powers that be in Calgary shrugged off my complaint about this, saying they could not find my name on the Caribou – PG members’ list. (The card I’m carrying is for Caribou-Prince George and does not expire until Feb. 28, 2015). So, either these folks are blind or “there’s a mystery afoot”.

Pgjohn, people may consider the alternatives and hold their nose when voting.

This development should be embarrassing to both party members and to all citizens. Despite taking over the riding association, Green’s handlers know that she is vulnerable and have resorted to cheating to exclude others from seeking the nomination. TJ Grewal misses the cut off by one week? How can that be anything but an attempt to rig the game? Shame on Stolz, Thew and on the Ottawa hacks who want to select their own candidate for Prince George. Anyone with even modest commitments to democracy and self-government would send these hacks a message. A candidate who owes their nomination to this type of nonsense has already declared their allegiance – and not to the voters of the riding. Spread the word.

Again, I repeat AGAIN, lets alienate them all by voting, get your memberships in A.S.A.P.
I and many others will NOT VOTE for the conservative party if Green gets in and that my friends are the facts.

What’s so mind boggling here is a community of middle class working citizens electing a PC to look after their political affairs. Lets hope your lucky enough after the election that will change.
Cheers

The only thing that would be interesting on Green winning the nomination would be on how she would spin her Single Term Disaster(STD) as mayor into something palatable to the voting public on an even bigger stage.

If she does scam her way in it would leave the door open for an independant conservative to win the riding or even a “star” candidate to win for the liberals.

Kim 02 Is not Abbotsford smack dab in the middle of capital C Conservative territory?

we would be fools not to choose tj grewal as our representative, if we get the chance.

i would think mr. harris’ support for todd would be token if tj steps up.

If the conservative members vote in Shari Green as the candidate and then the people of the Caribou-Prince George vote her in, I would be totally appalled. If this scenario were to happen then you deserve whatever you have coming down the pipe. I think I would turn into a very religious man,as we would need all the help from God that we could ask for.
