Relay for Life Honours Challenge
Prince George, B.C.- Helen Owen made a promise. The Relay for Life organizer had said she would shave her head if this year’s 24 hour relay raised $600 thousand dollars.
Well, a donation from Brent Marshall has pushed the total above that special mark, and today, Helen honoured her promise.
Her locks were shaved off at an event that not only saw her come good on her pledge, but acted as a kick off for the May 2015 Relay for Life.”We really want to thank everyone in Prince George who helped up become the number one relay in Canada . We had 1450 participants, 140 teams and Prince George raised over $560 thousand dollars which ensured us the designation of number 1 Relay for Life in Canada.”
Owen says Remax Realty owner, Brent Marshall, has topped up those dollars to push the total over the $600 thousand mark. Marshall has also committed to being on a Relay for Life Dream Team, “This is a new concept among the Canadian cancer Society” says Owen. Each Dream Team pledges to raise at least $5 thousand dollars before the end of this year. But Marshall has taken that a giant leap further, pledging to raise $50 thousand dollars through the Dream Team. Owen says Marshall has asked her to pass along this pledge “If he raises the $50 thousand dollars through the Dream Team, then Brent Marshall will be next person sitting here having his head shaved.”
Marsahll’s pledge could end up doubling, as BRAIN Canada has agreed to match dollar for dollar the amount he raises for brain cancer research.
The 2015 Relay for Life is set for May 9th and 10th at Masich Place Stadium
