Mixed News on Housing Starts in P.G.

Wednesday, November 12, 2014 @ 3:55 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Canada Mortgage and Housing says  there were  16  single family homes started in Prince George in October,  That’s more than double the 6 starts in the same month a year ago.

The stats also show there were 7 multiple family home starts in the city last month, up  one from  October of  2013.

In all,  the overall housing starts for Prince George in October were  23,  nearly double the 12 starts recorded in October of last year.

The year to date  stats are not as  positive though.

The  January to end of October  starts this year   for single family dwellings  sits at  104,  up just five from  the same period a year ago and .  The number of  multiple starts is down significantly from  the same period in 2013 and that has had an impact on the  overall total.

This year, there were just 14 multiple family units started  from January to end of October and 7 of those  started in October.   Last year,  the same ten month period saw 67 such units started.

So the  final total  stands at 118  housing starts in Prince George  from January to end of October this year, compared to 166 starts in the same  period in 2013.
