Prince George, B.C. – Burger King will be offering its customers the chance to take a bite out of crime next weekend.

The burger giant will do so by donating a dollar for each meal sold to the Two Rivers Crime Prevention Society, a non-profit organization that teams up with the RCMP’s Community Policing section to administer and deliver crime prevention programs and services.

Deepak Kumar manages the restaurant’s Prince George location and decided to lend a hand after noticing some of his own young staff members struggling with alcohol and drug dependency.

“I’ve seen really good kids get off to a promising start and then two or three months later they get into bad habits like doing drugs. Then you find out they’re standing on some street lying somewhere. Why are our kids turning into drug addicts? It’s really hard to see.”

He says he found it particularly troubling when two of his young female employees turned to drugs and ended up getting pregnant at the age of 16.

“You guys are already into deep trouble doing drugs and on top of that how are you going to manage the kids? It’s really sad.”

And as much as Kumar wants to help find a solution he’s kept his goals realistic.

“I know we can’t change society but we can do our part. People who come into contact with us, we can tell them to stay away from this and focus on their careers and be team players.”

He says it’s worth noting that all the money raised will stay in Prince George and allow the company to “give back to the community” it operates in.

The fundraiser takes place all day next Saturday and Sunday(November 29 & 30th).

When I first saw this headline, I was sure the article was going to be something further on Shari Green, the Conservative nomination, or the Prince George city administration.

We need more people like this to stand up and help. Thanks a lot.

Thank-you Mr. Kumar. That is the meaning of community, and I’m glad you get it. Glad it’s focused on prevention.

If our Liberal govt or any govt for that matter had any balls, we wouldn’t be having to deal with this crap. They allow it to happen.

1$ for every meal sold, or 1$ from the daily gross proceeds?

Just in case you missed it the first time.

The government is now responsible for one’s choices? Holy cow. Is there anything you don’t expect the rest of us to provide for you?

I agree Axman the Liberals have taken us down a slippery slope , when you have no jobs , low income , and get nothing but lip service this is the outcome . Crime will be the outcome .

On a more than ironic note . The word “whopper ” was born “coined ” out of crime and becoming a whopper was the punishment .

Didn’t the article say that two of his employees started using drugs and became pregnant at 16. How do you blame that on no jobs available?

What, exactly, do you expect from the government? Do you expect everyone to be paid, 50~60,000 dollars a year regardless of what they do? Or do not? Where does personal responsibility fit in in your utopia?
