NAV Canada Problem Impacting 250
Prince George, B.C.- The malfunction of a piece of NAV Canada weather data equipment at the Prince George Airport is having an impact on flights and the weather data provided to 250News.
As was noted in a release from the Prince George Airport, “The Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS), a device used to record weather, is not fully functioning at YXS. The AWOS records critical information for the safety of flight including ceiling height, sky condition, altimeter setting, wind direction and speed, temperature and dew point.” Without that information, flights cannot land safely.
That is the reason why flights to and from Prince George ( with the exception of Central Mountain Air) have been cancelled or delayed today. It is also the reason why you are not seeing temperatures or weather data on 250News.
That weather data is provided to Environment Canada, which is the source of our information. So, no feed of info to Environment Canada means 250News will also be in the dark on those details.
We are hopeful the issue will be resolved once the NAV Canada technician makes the necessary repairs to the equipment at the Prince George Airport.

An aircraft under IFR rules can fly an approach to minimums without current weather reporting. If reaching minimums and no runway in sight either try again or go else where. I wonder if we are getting the whole story.
