First Comes Snow, Then the Deep Freeze
Prince George, B.C.- Environment Canada has now issued a special weather statement to go along with the heavy snowfall warning for Prince George.
The forecast is calling for 15 to 25 centimeters of snow starting tonight and into tomorrow.
The snow will either change to rain or become mixed with rain early Thursday morning over southern areas while in more northern regions the snow should ease to flurries later Thursday.
And then the temperatures will plummet.
Environment Canada is advising a “drastic cold snap” will occur across the interior of B.C. Thursday and Friday.
Cold Arctic air will push southward throughout the day on Thursday across the Central Interior and make its way into the Columbia and Southwest Interior Thursday night or Friday morning. The leading edge of the Arctic air will be accompanied by gusty winds and plummeting temperatures. Areas where temperatures remained below freezing will experience reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Further south, where milder air caused snow melt, flash freeze will cause wet surfaces to become icy and slippery in the southern interior Thursday night.
Slippery highways, roads and walkways will make travel hazardous. Consider altering travel plans.
Environment Canada says the high temperature in Prince George on firday will be minus 18 , gradually warming to a high of minus 15 on Sunday, and eventually creeping up to minus 10 by Tuesday of next week.
