B.C. Fed of Labour Has New Leadership Team
Prince George, B.C. The B.C. Federation of Labour has elected a new executive.
Irene Lanzinger is the new president. She takes over the post that had been held by Jim Sinclair for the past 15 years. Lanzinger had been the Secretary Treasurer for the BC Federation of Labour since 2010 and was supported in her bid for presidency by Sinclair.
The new Secretary Treasurer is Aaron Eckman, who is based in Prince George. He had been the president of the North Central Labour Council as well as serving as the BCGEU’s Regional Coordinator ( see previous story on Eckman) . He told 250News “Unions are more relevant today than they’ve ever been. We’ve got a higher rate of income inequality than ever before or at least since the 1920’s and the start of the Great Depression.”

Irene Lanzinger?? The former head of the BCTF, Irene Lanzinger??
According to her “Irene Lanzinger for BC Fed President” website:
“In 2000, Irene became chief negotiator for the BCTF, bargaining on behalf of 41,000 members province-wide. The following year the BC Liberals took power with an overwhelming majority and began their attack on labour. It was the beginning of a long and fierce struggle between the union movement and a right-wing government intent on weakening collective bargaining rights.”
Oh, she’ll do just fine as BC Fed President, another lifelong complainer who has been grossly underpaid and undervalued for her entire working career!
Oh and by the way, I believe that this is the same Irene Lanzinger who stated the teacher’s deserve a raise and if we have to raise taxes to pay for it, so be it!
Let the games begin!
OMG,who cares? I can hardly think of a more irrelevant organization. No wait, I can, this is about as interesting has as an ICBA news release from Philip Hochstein.
The $15 an hour movement is all but in the bag now with this powerhouse lineup.
Lots of attacks but as usual no facts or information to backup.
I am sure she will do well , I hope she can live up to Jim Sinclair . All the best Irene .
