Prince George, B.C. – A new face has been added to an old sign that welcomes people to Prince George.
The sign at the intersection of Highway 16 and 97 has undergone a transformation.
The new face covers the wooden original, and features the Canada Games, the Lheidli Tenneh, the City’s Centennial and makes no mention of the City’s population or the Communities in Bloom.
Completed late last week, the full details on the funding and design of the sign are expected to be revealed later today.

Objective: Make a welcome sign with the least inspiring font, logo, and color combinations ever.
Task Complete!
I agree, this is awful! Quite honestly, I was never a fan of the original design, sad to see they actually spent time, money and energy to make it even worse. However, I will add a positive, the City parks staff have done a great job over the last few years with the landscaping.
The population number was a source of much debate and raised eyebrows. No wonder they got rid of it.
The design reminds me of a couple of cut down trees standing next to one another. Quite appropriate.
I agree Veritas. I like PG and I think that the City is coing some positive things. However, whomever was in charge of design on this project (and a few others around the City) is a complete schmuck.
That’s Shari and Cameron’s middle fingers as a going away gift.
another item paid for in the name of the Winter Games?
How unimaginative.
Cheers
Great news that the city didn’t spend a bunch of money on this sign. It’s a sign folks!
So you ppl are mad because the city didn’t spend enough money on this sing to re-design it.
You ppl would have been mad if they spent a crapload of money on this sign and DID re-design it.
So quit your whining and shut your trap. We are showcasing our city to the world in a few months. I for one, would love to hear the constant whiners just TRY and be happy for once.
Looks good..Looks Clean, Looks modern and can be easily amended for branding.
I’ve always thought this was a strange spot for a welcome to PG sign. you’re already well into city limits at this point.
Nice to see the population figures gone. They showed the population of PG as 81000 for many years, which of course is bogus. 75000 would be about it.
They tore down the **Welcome to Prince George** sign at the turn off to the Airport on Highway 97 South when they expanded the Highway. This was a pretty expensive sign, **logs and rock**. Seems like they just tore it out and threw it away, even though it was only a few years old. Hmmmm.
Kind of off topic, but I wonder how much that “Welcome to the PG Airport” sign cost? That one looks very expensive. Well, I’m glad my airport improvement fees are going to such worthy causes. ;-)
Ibear, I’m still laughing!
