Prince George, B.C. – Plenty of headway has been made in setting up the Northern Lights display at the Railway and Forestry Museum, but there is still a lot to do.

A call for volunteer help went out when the museum decided to host the display this holiday season after the city could not commit to the project this year. And despite bitterly cold temperatures Saturday, about fourteen people showed up to lend a hand try to put this together for the people of Prince George this holiday season. Bundled up they worked out in the rail museum yard for a time, placing the many racks of lights in the appropriate spots. When it became dangerous to remain outside any longer they went indoors, warmed up and then headed out again for another stint.

They jotted their names down on a list of volunteers and we thought they deserved a little recognition so we’re publishing them: David Greenberg, Conner Scully, Zakery Norum (estimation), Brent Jensen, Rick Publicover, a fellow named Martin whose last name was a little tough to make out but you know who you are, Eb Ziemer, Don Neufeld and Devon Johnson. Some names were not available so apologies for that.

The forecast is for sunny skies and a high of – 16 today but with a wind chill of minus 36 and a risk of frostbite. Museum Executive Director Ranjit Gill says all of the help so far is greatly appreciated but it will be just too cold to continue today. So she says another call for volunteers will go out later this weekend when it is supposed to warm up.

We’ll keep you posted.

Did YOU help Don or not?

What happened to the new mayor and councillors – especially McConnachie .. remember this is her city etc?

I’m assuming both of you were there. Or volunteering somewhere else.

Or all those winter games volunteers!

Have to give credit to those who showed up, however have to question the timing of the request for volunteers.

A check of the weather report would indicate that this week end was the worst possible time to ask for volunteers. Why would you expect people to freeze their asses off to put up lights that could be put up a few days later when it warms up???? Whats the rush??

Palopu …. you are absolutely correct! I couldn’t agree more; this was not the weather or weekend to be doing that job … poor planning

So with only a little over 3 weeks until Christmas, and this was a last minute job to accomplish, you two think they should have planned for another weekend? The rush to do it this weekend was because…. it WAS a weekend. More people are available during weekends because of that crazy thing like going to work.

Obviously this group needed your ultra impeccable planning skills.

You’re right … they could have used my ultra impeccable planning skills …… last weekend, next weekend would have been fine ….. again the potential for hypothermia was high …. I do volunteer for different causes; but I most certainly did not volunteer for this one …. you seem to think it was alright Pylot Project … were you out there putting up lights with the volunteers on this job, and if not, why not?????

No I didn’t, becauseI don’t live there. When I did (for 37 years), I volunteered for many arts community events during 20 of those years, but that’s besides the point.

Obviously your impeccable planning skills are brutal and need adjustment, since you didn’t even know that the Railway Museum only recently took on this project on Tuesday. They couldn’t have accomplished it last weekend. Next weekend it gets closer to Christmas and harder to find people that don’t have their time already spoken for.

Kuddos to those that DID volunteer and to the Railway Museum for taking this project on WITH SHORT NOTICE!.

The City says with its focus on the Canada Winter Games, there just isn’t enough time or staff availability to take over the event.”

SHAME of TOURISM PG and CITY HALL! They knew about this back in OCTOBER.

AT Least there are still some you have the spirit and interest of others in this community!

Again Kuddos to those trying to get this done!.

Apparently, we’ll criticise anything on 250News.com.

bcracer : “Did YOU help Don or not?”

Did who help Don or not? I didn’t know Don needed help. Or did you mean:
Don, did you help or not? If this is the case, why the hell should he answer to you? The man does more for this community than you can possibly fathom. If you have a problem with this maybe you should address it directly, you know, without a username? After all… he posted the article under his real name.
Palopu, once again you show us how superior you are to literally everyone else that does ANYTHING that gets posted on this site. With the timelines involved this weekend was the first weekend possible. So they got a start, then, you can bet your arrogant ass they will continue till its done,

Hats off to ALL involved with this endeavour.
