No Records Set

Monday, December 1, 2014 @ 11:34 AM

coldPrince George, B.C. – Yes it was a frosty cold weekend,  and while   Environment Canada meteorologist Jennifer Hay  thought  a new record low had been set in Prince George,   that is not the case.

Having carefully reviewed the numbers she originally gave to 250 News,  Hay now says she was off by a day, meaning  there was no  record setting cold afterall.

Hay says as  cold as it was on the weekend in Prince George,  it would have to get much colder to beat the record lows set in November of 1985. was a very cold November “So   Friday the 28th, the low in Prince George was  minus 26.1  the  record in 1985 was minus 34.5, so nowhere near. ”

And that was pretty much the story for the balance of the weekend,  off record setting cold by 2 or three degrees

She says the old record for today was set in  1961 when the low temperature was minus 32.8 and  the low  today was minus -28.2.

Hay says  November has been colder than the average November over the past 30 years.  The average low is minus 5.9  and the average high  is plus 1.  This past month,  the average low was  minus 8.9 and  overage high  was minus 1.7

The good news?  The arctic trough that has been pushing the cold   into the region, will  start to shift to the east by the end of the week.

Nice to know I ran in record cold. It did get a bit chilly up on the UNBC hill with the wind blowing.

If it wasn’t for AGW, anthropogenic global warming, we wouldn’t have a record cold.

Jimmy, glad to hear you weren’t running on the road.
Some runners won’t even get out of the way. But they usually end up in hospital.
