Prince George, B.C. – After the  Black Friday bargains and the Cyber Monday sales,  comes, today, “Giving Tuesday”.

It is a day  that encourages  you to volunteer, or make a donation to a charity of  your choice, to give something back.

Last year,  the first year Giving Tuesday was  introduced in Canada through the work of GIV3 and CanadaHelps.org. According to their stats, Giving Tuesday in 2013 resulted in a  169% increased in donations to charities compared to the same Tuesday in 2012.

Those charities that joined the Giving Tuesday movement also saw a 91% increase the dollar amount of donations on that same day.

Canadians are  challenged to follow  Giving Tuesday on Twitter ( #GivingTuesdayCa)  to  see   what other Canadians are doing to give back.  Today is also the day  you are encouraged to challenge your friends and family to  be involved and give to a charity  of  their choice.

Canada Helps says Black Friday and Cyber Monday are days that are good for the economy,  now it’s time to have  a day  for the community.
