Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Hospice Society has announced a new executive director.

Donna Flood will take over the position from Donalda Carson beginning January 5th and brings 32 years of nursing experience to the position.

“Me and my family moved here to Prince George two and a half years ago so I’ve been affiliated with Northern Health in participating with some of their program planning which is how I got introduced to the hospice program – working on transition planning for palliative patients.”

Previous to her new position she served on the Hospice Society’s Board of Directors and before that lived in Trail and Nunuvut.

Board president Mike Hickey says 20 people applied for the position with applicants from as far away as India and says Flood has a multitude of experience from leadership positions she has held in different areas of healthcare.

Donalda Carson, who’s been in the position for 20 years and was the society’s first and only executive director, felt it was time to take a step back.

“I feel it’s taken me until now to have a retirement savings to be able to live comfortably and travel and I just felt it was time to move on and get going with the rest of my life.”

Thank-you. It’s important work and I’m grateful there are people with the constitution to do it.

Congratulations and good luck.
