Record Weekend for Operation Red Nose

Sunday, December 7, 2014 @ 2:14 PM

Prince George, B.C. – It was a record weekend for Operation Red Nose in Prince George.oprn

The driving service, which offers a safe ride home for partiers who’ve had a few drinks, delivered 243 rides home over two nights of service, surpassing the previous high of 222 rides given on the same weekend in 2012.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the number of party-goers who chose to give us a call and get home safely,” says spokesperson Andrea Johnson.

“We couldn’t do it without the dedication of our fantastic volunteers.”

Despite the record she says they didn’t have enough volunteers last night to get to 25 clients.

“There was a wait time of up to one hour simply because we didn’t have enough volunteer teams on the road,” she said.

“We apologize to the 25 clients that we couldn’t get to. We did our best and promise to do better next weekend.”

Johnson says they are still looking for volunteers, especially on New Year’s Eve, and says applications can be found at www.ornpg.ca.

Volunteers must be at least 19 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and undergo a criminal record check.
