Submissions in to Mount Polley Review Panel
Williams Lake, B.C. – The deadline has passed for submissions to the panel that is examining the August breach of the Mount Polley mine tailings pond.
In all, there were 25 submissions to the panel by the required December 7th deadline. The source of submissions is across the board of stakeholders and interest groups says Shawn Robbins, the Communications Support person for the panel.
The submissions are not the only information the panel will be looking to for information as it prepares its report. There have been numerous interviews done and information gathered through the course of the investigation.
The Review Panel is made up of three geo-technical experts. It was established on August 14th, ten days after the tailings pond breach sent millions of cubic meters of water and tailings into Polley Lake, Hazeltine Creek and Quesnel Lake.
The panel is focusing its investigation into the factors related to the cause of the breach, and not the issues of environmental impact or liability.
The review panel is to submit its final report by the end of January.
