Cable Prepared to Lead School Board
Prince George, B.C. – Tony Cable says he’s ready for his new role as school board chairperson in District 57.
“I think being a new trustee there’s always a little apprehension and a little bit of a learning curve but I have a lot of experience and background. I’ve chaired a lot of different committees so I feel I’m prepared to do the job.”
He describes himself as inclusive and a team player but says obtaining a leadership role wasn’t a motivating factor in running for trustee.
“When I first decided to run my goal was to become a trustee. And then as I got to know the board and got to talk to people and they talked to me I just felt with my background and experience I could help the board.”
One person who agrees with that assessment is trustee Bruce Wiebe, who nominated Cable for the position.
“He has the years of experience, he has the knowledge base, he has the connection throughout the district. He knows (as a former administrator in the district) how the systems work and where all the schools are and brings a level of maturity with him as well.”
And after beating out trustee Tim Bennett for the top job, Cable understands it will also be his role to pave a smooth path moving forward.
“I think one of our big apprehensions coming into an election is that you don’t want a divided board. I think it’s healthy to have an election but I know when people don’t get the position they wish there comes disappointment but I hope I can work with the board and I think there’s enough leadership roles in this district that we can make sure that everyone has that role.”
