Transit Offers Food For Fare Rides

Sunday, December 14, 2014 @ 4:05 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Transit riders in Prince George will be able to hop aboard a bus without paying a fare for a few days this week. All they need do is help out less fortunate families in the community.

The City of Prince George is once again implementing its “Food for Fare” program this holiday season.  It’s a food drive for families in need which has been around for more than ten years now. From December 16th to 18th, passengers on BC Transit in the city can ride for free in exchange for at least one non-perishable food item. Then on December 22nd members of City Council will help to deliver the proceeds to the Salvation Army Food Bank at 18th and Nicholson.

Mayor Lyn Hall says “groups such as the Salvation Army that provide necessities to those less fortunate than ourselves require a great amount of support from residents all year, and the holidays are no exception. The smallest donation can help support an individual or family that requires a hand up. That is the most important part of the holiday season and a pillar of our community.”
