“We Have a Lot of Work To Do” – Doherty
Prince George, B.C. – The room erupted in cheers as it was announced Todd Doherty had captured the necessary votes to be declared the Conservative candidate in the Cariboo-Prince George riding.
Doherty did not have a speech prepared, “I am superstitious that way”.

There were 1002 votes cast for Doherty, 572 for Nick Fedorkiw and 419 for Shari Green. That count was good enough to declare Doherty the winner on the first ballot.
The Party says 80% of the members in Prince George cast ballots, while the turnout for the whole riding was about 66%.
Doherty was quick to thank the other candidates who were vying for the position, then turned his attention to say thank you to T.J Grewal. It was Grewal who helped Doherty over the top as he called on his supporters to back Doherty when it became clear Grewal would not be accepted as a nominee because his membership was one week short of the required time period.
“I believe we are going to do wonders in 2015 as we move forward” says Doherty We’ve got to get ready for an election.”
But for the moment, he says he and his family are going “soak in the moment and I think Monday morning we start thinking about what we’re doing in getting ready for the next election.”
Doherty says he’s realistic, and doesn’t believe winning the nomination means he is an automatic shoe in when the federal election is called “We have to prepare for war. Is today a slam dunk for the election? I don’t thinks so.”
Comments
I do not personally know Shari Green or wish her any ill will, I do feel that her not getting an almost sure ride to Ottawa was a good move for the riding. Should be interesting with the local constituency board almost entirely stocked with her supporters. Let the games begin.
Todd Doherty convinced the party he was the one…
can he do the same for the rest of us, you know the ones who vote and really count.
I am not so sure……..
Congratulations to Todd Doherty and his team for the victory last night.
The nay Sayers have spoken loudly with Shari Greens 3 place lost and we decided that it may be easer for Shari Green to move to a greener pasture and the rest of us just continue to improve this wonderful City and Caribou riding. Just a word of advice Shari Green, you do not make enemies with any news outlet that entertains 1 million viewers. If you are asked tough question on facts, then maybe just answer them or try to use the tough questions to better your knowledge of what people actually feel about the performance of an elected official. There is a time to be humble when serving the public. Its not difficult to do the right thing.
I wish you well Shari Green. Now we can move on and focus on better things.
Now we need a new leader so I don’t have to vote for Trudeau.
I wonder if Ms. green will now be calling O-250 to ask for an interview so she can give some final thoughts. Probably not, but if she does, it should be denied. She has no”newsworthyness” now.
I believe there were many others like myself who suddenly became Conservative members in order to ensure we had a voice in who became the member for our riding, and not because of our political beliefs. It’s probably the first and last time I will ever have anything to do with this party unless Todd disassociates himself from much of the current board members, some who have been reaping the benefits of taxpayer’s dollars for many years, through employment and job-skills training contracts etc. that the Conservative party has awarded them.
Nick is a good man and I would hope Todd will work with him in the future. I can’t say anything in support of Shari Green.
Well, best Christmas present ever is about all I can say.
So long Shari.
Furbink said “Now we need a new leader so I don’t have to vote for Trudeau.” Agree.
It really doesn’t matter who won the riding. Come 2015t hey will be toast. We have had enough of this PC crap.
Cheers
Yes now we need to show S Harper the exit door.
What you really mean retired. You have had enough. Speak for yourself not me.
Congratulations to Todd Doherty!
What a relief that Green is now long gone!!!
Green and her advisors(?) lost because of their ham handed efforts to do everything in their power to tilt the table in Green’s direction. The hijacking of the board and efforts to keep Grewal out of the race got way more press than anything she said about what her plans going forward if elected.
I think Green thought of herself as a northern version of Surrey mayor Dianne Watts. The problem is that Watts is a 3 term mayor who would have won a 4th term by a landslide while Green is a single term mayor who I believe would have suffered the same fate as her pions Sssstoltz and Wilber if her name was on the ballot last month. Another third place showing in a three horse race.
If you heard glasses clinking last night when the results were announced it was merely the residents of the Haldi area having a quiet toast to those who voted for Todd and Nick. Maybe Woods and Fehr. her dear old friends, can give the janitors job at the treatment center.
Maybe Kim has a touch of dimentia this morning. As a resident of Abbotsford cannot vote in either PG riding and is now living smack dab in the middle of the bible belt which has had a conservative MP since Jesus worn short pants:)
Congrats to Todd. I do have to agree with what dow said in the other thread. It will be nice not to have to read the childish anti-Green comments. I am by no means a Green supporter, but I have to wonder if some of these people making childish comments would say these things to her face?
JohnnyBelt wrote: “but I have to wonder if some of these people making childish comments would say these things to her face?”
Simple answer to that is a yes. It is about time some spoke up to bullies. I for one and a few other people have done just that. I do not find it childish to call a spade a spade.
Congratulations Todd, We are happy that you have been elected.
A superstitious Conservative — you don’t say. What a shocker. LOL
Congratulations, Todd.
Sparrow said “… Jesus worn (sic) short pants:)” So do the boys that run the PMO. All of them are son’s of god. ☻
Congratulations to the influential Indo Canadians behind Grewal you have voted in a puppet on your strings. Might not get to use it but sure an eye opener for other voters and might not pay out, but sure an eye opener. Maybe you can run Bobby Deepak again , he would have my vote this time around at least he is a lawyer.
Hey retired have you ever looked around where you live? Political majority in your area if you need a hint.
Retired 02. The heavy air in Abbotsford must be effecting your thinking.
It will take a lot more than a few anti Harper posters to get Harper unseated.
The next election will be a Zinger, and will be a lesson to anyone who wants to see how politics really works. We have all the makings of an interesting race.
1. NDP’s in Quebec who never did figure out if they were coming or going.
(I suggest in the next election they will be going)
2. Liberals who lost their way many years ago (Gomery Scandal) who in their wisdom had leaders like Dion, Ignatiaff, and now the **kid** Trudeau.
3. Conservatives slowly picking up seats through out the Country over the past 10 years.
Mulcair the leader of the NDP who is more disliked than Harper ever will be, who will be more than satisfied if he can hold on the position of Leader of the Opposition.
Trudeau. Who (If the truth were known) along with other Liberals would be more than happy if they could just get back their coveted position as Leader of the Opposition.
The Liberals and the NDP will hack themselves to death in the next election,.
Sh*t in your own nests didn’t you Shari and Cameron.
The last few weeks have been interesting, and Philomena your sarcastic sayings and negativity are tiring, hope you can be positive someday, wishing you a very Merry Christmas too
Palopu, I do believe you’ve put it all in a nutshell quite well and I forecast another win for the Conservatives in the next election.
Mulcair and Trudeau, together, don’t have what it takes.Just seems every time they say anything, they put the other foot in to the point where it’s getting fwustwating to listen to. And I am looking for viable options.
I think with TJ, Nick and Todd working together in this riding, they will make a huge and positive impact on the voters.
By the way Todd, congratulations. Keep you integrity close.
I think when theyupdated the web site the name should have been changed to ‘what we want you to hear 250’. Seems anytime my comment has something about Ukraine or conservative puppet masters it gets deleted. Sensitive on those issues I guess.
I would congratulateTodd but I still have no idea what he stands for on any issue and have never met him. I’m sure he is a nice guy though so I congratulate him on that.
You can be assured, if you make racists comments, your post will be removed. If you persist in making these types of comments, your privileges will be removed.
I hope that is clear enough.
Anyone but Shari for this region. Come federal election time anyone but Harper. Though not sure how much chance there is of that happening. We can’t afford another deficit creator like Harper. What are we at, another 150 billion in national debt thanks to him? We can’t afford another conservative government strictly from a debt standpoint.
Hey Pal stick with the municipal stuff. Your out of your league with federal sh***t. Anyone that would support Harper is light headed so don’t give me this heavy air stuff.
Cheers
Credit to all the volunteers with all parties and the candidates themselves. We had many calls from all 3 candidates and they were all polite, even when we informed them that we had made up our minds prior.
I went especially to hear all 3 speak on Saturday and I believe they all did their best.
Yes there was some ruddiness: The folks lining up to vote while these 3 were trying to speak were making a lot of noise and chatter, making it hard to hear the presentations.
Friends and relatives from the other 3 towns, informed us that there was a couple from Pr. George who were heckling Todd and any of his followers outside of the election polls in these towns and making some very serious accusations.
Winning and politics cannot be that serious to get down in the mud that far- —can it??
Thanks
Hey Retired, why do we keep getting a Conservative party elected. Maybe they know something you don’t. Perhaps the majority understands that the other parties have no hope. Just my opinion.
Retired 02.
When it comes to understanding Federal Politics, I suggest that you need to do some serious reading.
Here is something simple for you to work on. In the last election Stephen Harper garnered 5,832, 401 Votes, and won 166 seats, and formed a majority Government.
Now: Are we to believe that there are 5,832,401 light headed individuals in Canada, or should be we believe that the heavy air on the coast, is affecting your thinking.
Can you comprehend the number FIVE MILLION, EIGHT HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO THOUSAND, FOUR HUNDRED AND ONE.
Harper himself won his riding by some 43,000 votes.
If you truly think a Stephen Harper led Conservative Party is going to win another majority government, slim though it is now, then I think it is you who is sadly mistaken, Palopu. At this point I think it would take a miracle for that to happen again. With a new leader maybe, but not with him. Harper should be charged with treason, but I’ll settle for him being unseated next year.
Just to clarify, Harper won 1 seat, his party garnered 166 seats in total. That won’t happen next time. I think you misunderstand the appeal of a resurgent Liberal Party and how Mulcair’s lack of popularity will do a lot to facilitate it.
The Conservative Party won 53.9% of the seats, but only 39.62% of the popular vote. The other 4 parties garnered 59.49% of the popular vote. The Liberals and NDP together had 49.54% of the popular vote, 10 points higher than the Conservatives. It would be unwise to be dismissive of that. I think the Conservatives are going to get punished this coming election. Their leader campaigned on ending political corruption and has been the most corrupt PM I can recall, and I’ve been around a long time. He campaigned on transparency and his government has become the least transparent we’ve seen in decades. It’s time for Harper and his followers to go and I’ll be happy to see that day.
The latest federal poll, done on December 4th, has the Liberals leading.
35% Liberal
32% Conservative
23% NDP
Illegal too….palopu..you do not read or follow..just like the hArper gov.bunch of no gooders plus one more the Toad…looks like he can lie,steal,cheat..just like the rest of these BUMS called Conservatives…as for you all flat backers…yer a bunch of air heads yes…
T Y Sine N…yes the 60% that was too busy to get off there butts and look at what they did to this once great country…..Sum Dung hArper no more….
Seems to me I recall the last Federal Election all the surveys were all the polls had the Liberals winning a Majority, What happened. I look at the end result!!!!! Let us keep on looking at the the Polls too, but I do not take it that seriously. At this I have to say Thank God Harper is our Prime Minister.
Sine Nomine.
You left out some important parts of the poll.
1. 15% of the people polled were undecided.
2. While the Conservatives are behind in the total votes, they are much further ahead when it comes to winning seats.
3. There have been 30+ new seats added for 2015 most of them in the West, and the feeling is that the Conservatives will win most if not all of them.
Furthermore we have a situation where the Bloc is making a comeback in Quebec, and they will eat into the NDP vote. The NDP and the Liberals will be fighting each other for every vote they can get.
Lets not overlook the fact that the Conservatives formed a majority Government without the aid of Quebec, and in fact lost seats in Quebec in the last election. Forming a majority Government in Canada without Quebec has never been done, until the election of 2011. This is significant. I myself feel that the Conservatives will do better in Quebec this time around. Actually I think they will do better in the Eastern Provinces as well.
So. There is a big difference between what a person would like to see happen, as opposed to what is likely to happen. Wishful thinking has never won a election. It takes organization, and hard work.
In the words of Mark Twain. **The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.**
The same thing applies to the Conservative Government. The reports of its demise are greatly exaggerated.
If Trudeau runs into trouble in the next election he can call on Dion and Ignatiaff to help. Hmmmm. Maybe not Ignatiaff, seems he has returned to Harvard University, in Cambridge Mass. from whence he came.
Why do I think Shari is at home wondering what happened. She thought she was a great mayor. That in itself sums up her ignorance.
You will not be missed.
