More Citizens Take Advantage of Safe Ride Option
Prince George, B.C. – Weekend number three of the 2014 Operation Red Nose campaign in Prince George is now in the books.
The volunteers provided a total of 274 rides on Friday and Saturday. On Friday 78 volunteers, including 22 teams, delivered 111 rides, travelling 3,071 km. On Saturday 163 trips were provided by 83 volunteers, including 23 teams, travelling 3,862 km.
It’s the program’s third best weekend on nights five and six in its 17-year history. In 2010, a record 284 rides were provided on the same weekend and in 2012, 284 safe trips were delivered. So far in 2014, Operation Red Nose has delivered 630 safe rides home for party-goers.
Organizer Andrea Johnson says “We’re pretty happy with how the weekend unfolded. We had enough teams on each night to keep up with the demand for rides and clients only had to wait as long as 20 minutes.”
She says they are still looking for volunteers for New Year’s Eve. “We’ll need between 40 to 45 teams out on the road Dec. 31st who will work from 9 p.m. to 4 am. Our busiest time period will be from midnight to 4 a.m.”
Volunteers are encouraged to apply online at www.ornpg.ca as soon as possible so their Criminal Record Checks can be processed in time by the RCMP.
