Railway Museum Perfect Backdrop for Christmas Fun
Prince George, B.C. – If you’re looking for a special treat for your kids, grandkids and/or yourself this holiday season be sure to take in the Celebration of Lights at the Railway and Forestry Museum on River Road. It is one thing you do not want to miss.
The sights, sounds and lights were on display from 3pm to 6pm Sunday as MLAs Shirley Bond and Mike Morris hosted Holiday Fun for the Family, a free family event put on by the MLAs and a team of party volunteers, some of whom have been volunteering since they were Socreds. And the event was hugely successful as literally hundreds of families dropped in to kick off the Christmas season.
They were treated to hot dogs and hot chocolate, Rice Krispie squares and cookies, train rides on the Cottonwood Railway, musical entertainment, and a special visit from Santa and Mrs Claus. Both the jolly old man and his better half casually strolled through the large throng assembled inside the museum building, taking time to chat with wide-eyed youngsters, asking whether they had been naughty or nice and what they might like to find under the tree. The expressions on the face of some of the kids pretty well displayed how blown away they were that Santa had actually grabbed a chair, sat down and talked to THEM!
Out in the museum yard everywhere you turned, every rail car and locomotive you looked behind was another unique light display in varying configurations and colours. And if you get too chilly there is always a fire to huddle around to warm up.
The museum is putting on its excellent annual light show which this year is bolstered by the lights which normally shine atop Connaught Hill each Christmas. And it really is a great show, one you do not want to miss. The Celebration of Lights runs from this Thursday, December 18th until Christmas Eve, 4 to 8pm from the 18th to 23rd and 2 until 6pm on Christmas Eve.
