Will it be a White Christmas for Prince George this Year?
Prince George, B.C. – Celebrating a white Christmas is a holiday tradition Prince George residents have come to expect each year.
However Environment Canada is unable to predict with confidence whether or not it’s going to happen this year.
“It’s hard to predict that far into the future,” says meteorologist Jennifer Hay.
“It looks like you (Prince George) could see some snow this weekend and then it looks like there’s a fairly good likelihood (40%-60%) of flurries Christmas Day.”
Hay says if there isn’t any snow it wouldn’t be a first noting “there are four years on record with no snow – 1962,1994,2002,2005.”
She says last Christmas Prince George had 42 centimetres of the white stuff on the ground (3rd highest in recorded history) and says the average is 18 centimetres.
As for the expected temperature on Christmas Day Hay says it will likely be below zero but nowhere the record high of 8 degrees (1947) or the record low of minus 41 (1971).

The snow removal budget must be doing good
I have snow. In fact, there’s more falling as I type.
Are they still working on last years snow budget????
If this weather continues, hopefully they will be able to save a large portion of the $5 Million we pay for snow for 2014.
Its these types of situations, if handled properly where large amounts of money can be saved.
Now is the time to be watching the spending of the snow budget to ensure that none of the money is wasted.
I bet taxpayers will be paying for trucked in snow for the winter games.
