Busy Day at YXS

Friday, December 19, 2014 @ 3:52 AM

Prince George, BC- Today is one if the busiest days of the year at the Prince George Airport.

Families heading  out of town for the holidays or coming home for Christmas will keep the airport busy.

Communications and Marketing Manager for the airport, Lindsay Cotter offers the following  tips that can help you make the arrivals or departures as stress less as possible :

  • Check the weather conditions at yxs and any connecting airports to ensure flights are arriving or leaving on time
  • Arrive at the airport at least an hour before your flight is scheduled to leave. Allow more time if you are parking a vehicle
  • Check the weight and size restrictions for baggage on the airline
  • Put identification inside and outside the baggage
  • Do not wrap pack of plan to carry on wrapped gifts   leave them unwrapped
  • Don’t place anything fragile inside baggage  If possible carry it on board with you
  • If possible let check in online ahead of time

“The Christmas rush has already begun” says Cotter “we hope these tips will make the experience (travelling) more enjoyable for all.”.

Here’s a tip for the airlines. Stop letting people on with obvious over-sized carry on!

How busy can a dinky regional airport possibly get?

Here’s another tip regarding a Prince George/YXS behaviour that drives me nuts. As a former frequent business traveller, whenever I retrieved my luggage at Vancouver/YVR, it was typical for people to stand a respectable distance from the carousel so everyone could see the suitcases coming down. When yours arrived, you stepped in and retrieved it. At YXS? – not a chance. Everyone crowds up to the belt like Black Friday bargain hunters at Walmart, refusing to budge until they have their luggage on hand, even if it’s the last one on the conveyor.

For Pete’s sake, stand back a bit so others have a chance to see and retrieve their bags !

My pet peeve at YXS is the people that stop right inside the doors to hug their greeters and chat for a bit. Good grief people, show some common courtesy towards the people behind you; most of us don’t like standing in the rain, cold or wind while you cop a feel.

Agreed axman and tarn. There’s a lack of common courtesy and awareness of other people.

common courtesy? Is that common sense?
