Last “Friday Free For All” before Christmas!!

Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope that Santa is good to all of you!

Best wishes for a happy and safe Christmas season everyone.

Regular gas this morning in phoenix AZ 69 cents a lt. And diesel 94 cents a lt. that is with the Canadian dollar exchange rate of 1.15 added in. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERY BODY

I really don’t want to shovel snow but at this pace we won’t have any for the winter games. Not a fan of the games but hope we get lots of snow so all the events are top notch.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours :)

Almost a week since Shari green was ousted once and for all.
A little tour of Facebook will show that her and her supporters are quite bitter the Todd Dougherty and his supporters.
It should be interesting to see how well or if at all any if these people can work together in the future.

Happy Holidays to everyone! Have a safe and Merry Christmas to all.

Happy Festivus everyone.

Wish Shari Green the best in her future endeavors. Better things to do than judge and ridicule others for their efforts weather they were successful or not at least she tried. More than I can say for most that harbor this site.

The weather is good. Whether you agree or not is another issue.

So I go to Value Village and I’m looking in the jackets and I find a nice black (used) club monaco jacket. Its a little rough but nice and it fits. ‘Im going to buy this, its perfect’ I say..
I look at the price tag… 75 Dollars!!! Im not joking…
Is it me or has value village not jacked their prices and especially if it has any kind of name brand…
Is this not a affordable used clothing store for people who cant afford to buy new all the time and for people in need???
I talk with my family about it, my wife tells me that anything le chateu or anything for women with name brand is never under 20 bucks!!

So after I see this price tag of 75 dollars, i bring it up to the till and ask if this is a mistake…
The cashier goes to the back and comes out to tell me that the manager says this is a 2-3 hundred dollar jacket brand new…
So I ask if this is usual selling a used item for 40-50 percent of ‘brand new’?
I then asked can they discount it… ‘No’ was the reply…

I couldnt believe it.
This is supposed to be a store you can go and afford used clothing people donate…
Now, ill never go there again! I cant afford it…

The next day me and the family go to salvation army and find a pair of skates for the wife.. $1.49…
Sold!
Now I know where to go and whos actually helping people less fortunate

Im not sure whos pricing stuff at VV but shame on your company and why its even excistence…
Its really too bad :(
Salvation Army from now on!

Thanks for the heads up Digitus Impudicus, but I think they get the drift.

Almost a week since Shari green was ousted once and for all.
A little tour of Facebook will show that her and her supporters are quite bitter the Todd Dougherty and his supporters.

———-

Maybe next Friday we can have a “Shari Green Comment Free Day”. She’s gone, it’s time to move on; both the winners and the losers.

To all the drivers out there. When approaching a vehicle that has the letter “L” on it “PLEASE” demonstrative a level of patents and respect after all you were young once too.

@maverick 1965…..wait a minute. Last week you were advocating for higher speed limits on the road and a “balls to the walls ” driving style. This week you’re asking for respect for other drivers. I guess PG needs an HOV lane for Hypocrites Occupying Vehicles.

Merry Christmas to my friends up in George. It’s a balmy 7c this am in Abby. I know you are all thinking about Christmas and the coming New year. The other day you were all fired up about Site C . I wonder if any of you have really given this some thought.

Pal tried has best to give you something to think about but there are other considerations and that’s the economy at this time. Most of you have probably forgotten or are ignoring what happened in 1981 when interest rate went through the roof to 22 % and the BC economy went into the dumper. It took years to get the economy on track.

I know you laughed me rigth off the page when I wanted to know who will build the 450,000 homes to which Site C will provide the power. We drove through Pine Cone sub in 1982 more then half of the lots were empty. It took 10 years before the building resumed as you can see the drastic change in home design.

Today the price of a barrel of oil is in the mid $50’s price range. The Tar Sands need around $80.00 a barrel to survive. So, how much longer will it be in operation? Alberta and the Federal Government will go into a tail spin. What subsidies will they cut to BC? And here we are with a nine billion dollar contract to feed friends in high places at the cost of the consumer. Will this dead horse ever burst the bubble that you live under.

I’ll just go on milking my stupid cow and selling the cream.
Merry Christmas to all.
Cheers

Got back from out west and found out that Todd won, had to giggle. I knew the campaign for Shari, was done when she and the executive did what ever maneuvors they need to do to keep TJ out. You see, the Indo Canadian society is a tight nit group. You don’t do that to their leader and expect no reprecussions. They will place their votes to where their heart tells them too.

So I guess, we are going to get a whole new executive locally, Todd, these people that were Shari fans need to get ousted soon, or you will be fighting them all the way.

A lot of People did not like what Shari done in office. I was not a big fan of Shari, but will give her credit. When she got in, she managed to clear out 25-30 desks of mid and upper management. Again a few more this summer. She also ran the hardest bargain against the unions. The only problem she had was, she did not use the media to her advantage. The difference between having a great image and evil image in public life, is ability to stroke the media.

When the Nuclear Plant in Japan imploded a few years ago, I knew that the sell on Site C just became a lot easier.

The foot print of the dam and reservoir is really not that big. There is nothing in this world that we do that does not impact the environment. Even the tree huggers realize this. The act of good development is choosing the right project. I think BC Hydro picked the right one.

The alternatives which had been tossed around was to install a Gas fired power plant at 1/3 the cost. I am sure that was explored, but they new that they would have no control on the cost of the fuel in the future, and over the years it will create a way bigger carbon foot print. The long term maintenance cost on a gas fired plant is a lot higher than that of a Hydro Electric Dam.

So at the end of the day the choice to build the dam is the best choice for the future development of BC.

pg80, i totally agree and don’t even set foot in that frustrating store anymore. Years ago, when I was younger, I bought most of my clothes at VV, when t-shirts weren’t more than 2.00 and pants no more than 3.00. jackets, regardless of brand, were a little more expensive, but always around the 10.00 mark. i know from friends that have worked there that staff have a list in the back of brand names that should be charged a premium, including american eagle, north face, gap, MEC, levi’s, even old navy. if a shirt looks ‘vintage’, they jack up the price. sure, there are deals to be had if you’re looking for a ‘1999 credit union golf tournament’ t-shirt in an xxxl, but good luck finding decent clothes at a decent price. I can usually find brand new t-shirts for a cheaper price than used ones at VV.

go to any other thrift store if you want to actually save money. like pg80 said, the sally ann sells all clothes usually for under a dollar, regardless of the brand. we stopped donating to VV years ago and now donate to St. Vincents or the Salvation Army, where people who genuinely cannot afford to pay higher prices for clothing can still find decent threads.

I would love to see what the overhead costs are at VV, like how much actually gets donated to local charities and how much do they pocket as pure profit.

Digitus Impudicus, not sure how you would consider me a hypocrites because I support raising the speed limit on the Hart?
Showing a little respect to new drivers is not being a hypocrite either so what are you getting at? Need a hug?

If we actually need the power then I’d much rather have a Dam than a bunch of natural gas generators. That is my opinion. I do admit that I am not at the forefront of natural gas technology but I can’t see how burning a fossil fuel is better than hydro.

People will be displaced. Land will be flooded. That’s the price we pay for progress. If we NEED the power then the Dam is the best option.

“Wish Shari Green the best in her future endeavors. Better things to do than judge and ridicule others for their efforts weather they were successful or not at least she tried. More than I can say for most that harbor this site.”

Well said Maverick, agree 100%

Digitus Impudicus;

Looking over our conversations a few days back you insinuated that I was one of the so called “crappy” drivers on our roads.
For your info I have been driving between 40,000 and 60,000 km per year for the past 36 years and guess what “ACCIDENT FREE”! My last traffic violation was 27 years ago, so I must be doing something right hey!
Keep right if your having trouble keeping up Digitus Impudicus and have a safe wonderful Christmas!

I would like to propose that in 2015 we make this site a “Green” and “keep right except to pass” free zone. I am sick of both of these topics. I wish all of you a prosperous and happy Christmas season and New Year.

I agree, some topics need a rest! I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

A respectful request to to drivers of vehicles equipped with driving, or ‘fog’ lights seems most vehicles come equipped with them these days;

Please turn them off when you are facing oncoming traffic, they are too
bright, especially on narrow, dark roads.

You do realize that there is a separate switch for them, right?

metalman.

I am sick of certain topics too, but this is the Friday Free for All. If we’re going to start a list of topics we’re not allowed to talk about because they might annoy someone… well, that’s going to be a very long list.

@maverick 1965…how would I know if you’re telling the truth ? It was only a few days back you were throwing a bible at me. So I imagine the word “hypocrite” really gets under your skin. So….when does the “L” come off your car maverick 1965 ?

A Festivus for the rest of us…

Digitus Impudicus when I think of you Cartmen of south park comes to mind!

Retired here is a simple explanation for you. That figure of 450,000 homes is just to give people an idea of the power output, an idea of 1,100 megawatts at full output. But they way your self-proclaimed is being covered with pavement and development that figure actually may have some facts to it. Enjoy your mushrooms.

Hey how did it go with the gas plant near you?

Handycap the price difference is all about taxes. Take away the 7 cent carbon tax scam that narrows the difference quite a bit.

LOL…that’s cool maverick 1965. And you must be Mr. Hankey from South Park. LOL…please look it up.

Lol..Wouldn’t have expected much else coming from an ass !!! Lol

Friday Free For All should be renamed Bitch, Whine and Moan Friday… Crap, now I’m stuck in the vortex too. See how that happens? Ugh.

On another note, doesn’t the world feel so much safer now that “The Interview” is being shelved by Sony? (sarcasm off). The North Koreans won without firing shot. Where’s Anonymous when you need them?

@maverick 1965….well I’ve got to RUN so I’m going to turn the other CHEEK. Haha, have a good day Pooh Man.

Nah, Saturday December the 13th, 2014 will always be victory day.
We will just call it that and not mention any names. Sound good?
That way I won’t be offending any of the chronic whiners around here.

So at the end of the day the choice to build the dam is the best choice for the future development of BC.
=====================================

What I’m trying to tell you is this project is a political decision. Show me some facts that we need this power now or in the future. Telling us that this is what it will do is just so much talk any one can figure that out. Where is BC Hydro in this project? Its in debt up to its ears and now we want create more debt.
Cheers

Seamut. You might want to look at the following examples of statements made and then think about the post you made to retired 02.

**ATCO Power is proposing to build and operate a new 400 megawatt natural gas-fired power station to meet Alberta’s growing electricity demand. Our station will use clean and efficient natural gas-fired combined cycle technology that will produce enough electricity to power approximatel 400,000 home in Alberta.***

Statement from BC Hydro. **Site C will provide 1,100 megawatts of capacity, enough to power the equivalent of about 450,000 homes per year in B.C.**

So you can see that 400 megawatts in Alberta can power 400,000 homes, and 1,100 megawatts in BC can power 450,000 homes. Seems to be a huge discrepancy here.

Furthermore BC uses approx. 1.1 Trillion cubic ft of natural gas per years. The conservative estimate for recoverable gas in BC is 100 Trillion cubic ft . So simple mathematics says we have sufficient gas to last 100 years.

Natural gas plants are basically clean, and pollute next to nothing. Especially when you trap the heat from the gas, to produce steam to produce more electricity.

Natural Gas plants are by far the more sensible way to go in the future. Flooding large tracts of farm land, to generate electricity is the old way of producing electricity. We need to move into the 21st century and beyond.

Whoever is in charge of designing the passing lanes on our highways should be fired. Putting passing lanes on curves is the dumbest thing i’ve seem.

What would be the ‘Beyond’ there Palopu? Don’t forget that our ‘vast’ reserves of natural gas are worth far more to other countries than what we’re willing to pay here. So lets say that over the next 50 year we use 500 billion cubic feet of gas and sell 500 billion cubic feet. Well then we’re all out in 50 years. The Bennet Dam is 50 years old…and has quite a few more years left in it.

Don’t forget that it looks like we will be using far more electricity in the future than we do today. Electric vehicles, gadgets, computers, you name it…its gonna run on electricity rather than fossil fuels. We are going to need clean sources like hydro to keep the world spinning.

The reason they get such a high price for natural gas in China, Korea, etc; is because of the high cost of getting this gas to market.

If you think for a minute you have to calculate the cost of the pipelines, the LNG Plants to freeze the gas so that it can be shipped, and then the shipping to destination, and of course returning it to natural gas, and piping it to customers.

If you eliminate the LNG plants, shipping, and distribution costs to the end user you can reduce the cost of using natural gas substaintially.

The argument that the price of natural gas fluctuates and therefore is unpredictable is **HS**. In fact to ensure that the amount of gas and the price remains stable is one reason for the 30 year contracts.

Natural Gas that is shipped to South East Asia, etc; is used for two reasons. One is to supply homes with heat, etc; and the other is to produce electricity, and reduce the need for coal fired electricity.

It should not be to difficult to understand that if they can produce electricity in these other Countries with natural gas, then we here at home, where we are sitting on a trillion cu ft of recoverable gas, could do the same at a much cheaper price.

Don’t listen to all the BS coming from the Government, Hydro, and those few contractors ie; cement, steel, aluminum, etc; that stand to make millions on Hydro, because they are vested interests.

Palopu: “Don’t listen to all the BS coming from the Government, Hydro, and those few contractors ie; cement, steel, aluminum, etc; that stand to make millions on Hydro”

So you’re saying we shuold listen to your BS instead? What is your ‘vested interest’?

Lets keep in mind that the high price for natural gas is paid to the gas companies, not to the BC Government. Its the gas companies that have to absorb shipping costs etc; So don’t confuse the price of gas in South East Asia and Europe with the amount of money that is made in BC.

For starters,. Do you really believe that the BC Government would charge a company a higher royalty of export gas, than they would on domestic gas. Highly unlikely. The Government makes its money on the royalties charged at the well head, and doesn’t give a hoot, where the gas is sold. The only benefit of selling it in the export market is the volume that can be sold, and therefore the amount of money that can be made. BC companies using this gas would be part of that volume.

Natural gas plants in BC can be built faster, are more efficient, can be located in remote area’s so as not to effect people and will not require the degradation of land. With reduced shipping costs this gas would be quite cheap, and produce good profits for private companies.

Furthermore Site C will probably flood potential natural gas wells that could generate this electricity, however it seems they could care less.

Whoever is in charge of designing the passing lanes on our highways should be fired. Putting passing lanes on curves is the dumbest thing i’ve seem.

I agree, I can think of only one passing lane on the way to Vanderhoof that is on a straight section of road, all the rest have a curve in them somewhere, even the one that was built last year, entire pass zone in an ‘S’ curve. OK on divided highways but not in 2 way traffic that normally runs at 120kph.

JohnnyBelt. My vested interest is the interest of common sense. We don’t need to flood farm land, move people, damage fish and wildlife habitat, etc; just to make a dollar.

We can go slower, use natural gas, and get the same result. Further more a natural gas site on the Hart Industrial Area, would be more beneficial to local business, than Site C. I would have thought that you JB would be in favour of local industrial growth.

From reading these posts over the years, I got the impression that local industry was the number one criteria, however it seems we support industry in Kitimat, Prince Rupert, Ft St John, and Hudson Hope, but just roll over and moan when it comes to building something in Prince George.

The exploitation of natural gas resources, and the benefits to the **owners** the citizens of BC should not be left the **brain trust** of the BC Government, BC Hydro, and Multi National Corporations. We need to have some input from others, such as Cities, Regional Districts, First Nations, etc; .

This gas is not going anywhere anytime soon, and if we do not get the maximum benefits from its exploitation, then we can leave most of it in the ground.

PS…Lets not forget that the Governments own commission could not find a compelling reason to build Site C at this time.

Retired show me facts we won’t need this power now or in the future? What do you use for power, fairy dust?

Palopu I suggest you give Fortis a call a learn about gas marketing.

So you are saying OMG is not needed for gas plants now? Seems to be some confusion on your part.

Palopu and retired read up on sumas 2.

The Esso at the Hart Mall is selling gas for $1.15.9/litre. Every other gas station I’ve noticed, including the Petrocan on the other side of Austin Road, is at $0.98.5. Very strange.

As to the LNG concept and how it will benefit the province from which it is extracted, the LNG companies pay 1% royalty.

That is right, the province of BC receives an astounding 1 percent royalty for the privilege of letting someone take the resource and make a not so small profit. Add to that the fact that this royalty goes into general revenue, not to any citizen directly as the First Nations communities are supposed to be doing.
If the LNG company is registered outside of Canada, then Canada does not even collect an income tax.

As an example, invite someone to your property to explore for valued resources and rip up every thing including your water and sewer pipes, your communications and electric lines, all for the low low price of almost nothing and then let them keep 99% of the profits. This of course leaves you with the resources gone and a big mess to clean up all on your own dime.

I have never been a supporter of the Site C concept ever since I first heard it proposed in my late teens way back in the early 80’s and that was a rehash of a previous proposal from back in the late 60’s I believe.

Loki, what is the basis for the 1% LNG royalty? Gross? Net?

One must remember that the way to tell if a politician is lying is that their lips are moving and they are making sounds.

Same thing goes for most proponents of any development. They want to gain support, so they put on their best face.

I do believe that hydro generation, defined as using the kinetic energy of moving water to produce energy, is one of the most effective and environmentally clean schemes available to us today. However, it is an old paradigm that has become the go to solution to the detriment of other less developed energy generation concepts. It is the go to solution because we have experience with it and it is scalable.

I believe that we have adequate energy sources for the next couple or few decades, so “we” should be actively developing other means such as the wind, solar thermal, solar voltaic, and geo-thermal. yes, SM, I am including IPP’s in that equation.

There is no single solution. It needs to be a blend of the stable sources such as large hydro electric generating dams, plus IPP, plus geo-thermal, plus solar thermal, plus solar voltaic, plus portable solution such as LNG and hydrogen, et el.

“We” need to strongly encourage these alternative developments, not hinder them. Many of the alternative generating schemes are slagged because they are not as efficient. Well duh, they have not been worked on enough. What is enough? Enough is when it works to a desirable efficiency level. Does that mean that it must equal current generation efficiencies? I do not think so.

Instead of spending all your personal efforts to hinder and slag these less developed technologies, spend that effort making them work or proven beyond a doubt that they are not viable with currently available technologies.

Technology can be and I think will be our savior, but it needs to be developed. At one time, the president and CEO of IBM in the 50’s said, “Why would any one want a computer in their home or business.”

BP:, I read in an article from CBC last week.

Loki alternate forms of energy are not new. Have you ever been to the site c area? What makes you think wind, solar are benign sources of energy. Ipp’s have 60 billion in contracts. You and Palopu have never addressed that fact. Bulk hydro electric is the cheapest. Just how much are you willing to as all the forms of power are expensive and cannot exist without taxpayer subsidies. Look at how power rates have increased greatly in the countries that tried.

I am curious where you and Palopu source your information. Retired says his home page is the Georgia Strait, that says it all right there.

This is how it works at Value Village – donations (in bags) are put onto a scale and weighed – the charity (in this case AimHi) gets paid pennies on the pound – the rest is pure profit – there are numbers to be met everyday when it comes to pricing and units of merchandise that are put on the floor – and don’t forget that this is an American company – as for the store here in PG – there is a huge bullying problem in the back room, the turn-over of employees is incredible – they are paid minimum wage and are worked like dogs. If one really wants to do some good in the community then donate to non-profit thrift stores and keep the money here rather than it going south.

Seamut, there you go again. You obviously did not read my posts for content and you are firing off prematurely, much like your spouse has complained about for years. (just had to go there)

No where in my post did I suggest that these alternate sources are benign. That is why I made a point of suggesting a better use of effort would be to work towards developing those technologies to become an efficient and viable part of our energy eco-system. I even spent effort to acknowledge your comments regarding those efficiencies or lack of.

I deliberately mentioned spending effort in that direction because you especially seem to take much delight in detracting or simply challenging anyone that suggests something besides the status quo.

The world does not need more nay sayers and negative nellies. The world needs forward thinking to overcome the challenges we face today and will face in the future. It is easy to go with the tried and true, it is much harder to do right.

LNG is not the answer. It is a finite or limited resource. It may be vast at the moment, but in a hundred years we will not have LNG or petroleum. Then what? Now is the time to develop the alternatives in order to extend the time we can use portable energy sources like LNG and petroleum and smoothly transition to what ever we have available in the future. Try to see things past your nose. Today is rosy, what happens when the well literally runs dry. Oh wait, you don’t give a crap about future generations. It is all about me me me right now. Or, have I and most others misinterpreted your messaging? I still wonder why you are so strongly in support. You must have some vested interest such as ebing a politician, a lobbiest, or an employee or key stakeholder of a company that will benefit from hindering alternative energy.

Have a nice day and a safe holiday season.

You have some good points Loki. Another problem with hydro electricity is the transmission where there is some line loss (7%). The smaller projects can be built closer to the consumer.
Cheers

So Retired 02, does this mean that you would support Sumas 2?

Forgot to answer you question about sources.

CBC news, Google news, 250 news, local television, government reports, stake holder reports, documentaries, and history texts, as well as rumour mill and conspiracy sites. I imagine it is much the same as you.

The main difference is the key points that catch my attention and how I interpret what those reports have to say.

I do not trust government or big business simply because I have studied history. Business is in business for profit, and government is in business for business’ sake. I think we should be supporting more for-benefit business’ than for-profit. The former does not mean no profit, just a little less with a lot more benefit for humanity.

Remember the Rothschilds, they financed both side of the french revolution and the American civil war as well as most other major conflicts since the 12th century. How can you trust that? By the way, the Rothschilds are still one of the five (5) major family groups that own almost everything.

What Loki says about the Rothschilds is pure fantasy. The family did not even become prominent until the 18th century – there is no evidence of it financing most major conflicts since the 12th century. Their principal role in financing a war was in financing the British against Napoleon.

from a google search result at wikipedia:
The Rothschild family is a family descending from Mayer Amschel Rothschild, a court Jew to the German Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel, in the Free City of Frankfurt, who established his banking business in the 1760s.[1] Unlike most previous court Jews, Rothschild managed to bequeath his wealth, and established an international banking family through his five sons.[2]

So they magically all of a sudden were able to provide major financing to governments?

It takes many years to develop that kind of influence and access to the upper echelons. Are you suggesting they came out of no where with major financial resources and significant contacts in the middle of the 18th (1700’s) century?

Mayer Rothschild happens to be the one that made the deals with Kings and emperors in that period. He was not the first of his family by a long shot to be involved international finance.

You are so right notfromhere……I have a very good freind that is employed at VV and works in the back room sorting, and has from what you descibed in your opinion she confirms. Yah know when you hear about garment factories in the east.. I suspect the PG VV is running a very close 2nd.
I want to know why BC Labor has not got involved with this so called charity….cause someone is beating the drum.

Anybody have any tin mine shares to recommend?

Wonder what all the violence against women groups have got to say about the murders of children by women lately.

Metalman: Would like to grab a coffee with you, sounds like you had the same experiences in the Cache I had.

So what’s Sumas II got to do with this conversation? And who cares.
Cheers

Sumas 2, nimby crowd.

Thank you regulars and visitors for the most entertaining commentary….you can turn the worst day into a smile. Season’s Greetings to all!

I’d like to comment on the disaster of turning 4th Avenue in to a two way traffic congestion. Drive like a nut to get in to the right lane at the top of 4th. Sit at 4th & Victoria for 2 or 3 lights to turn as the light is short and traffic backs up. Parking taken away and spots on 3rd and 4th fill quickly in the early morning with Government worker vehicles. Be careful coming down 4th near RCMP building.. In early morning when its still dark, the RCMP and staff jay walk and hard to see in their dark clothing. That’ll be the next pedestrian hit.

Cheers! All the best in 2015

“I’d like to comment on the disaster of turning 4th Avenue in to a two way traffic congestion.”

——–

Someone has had made it through Kindergarten must have designed that entire project. There is no indication that the left lane has to exit just past the curve where 5th becomes 4th. And that light at Victoria? Good grief.

I don’t even try that route any more.

I think the long term plan is to have a traffic circle on Winnipeg St. and another one where 3rd, 4th, and 5th converge. Once that’s done then some of the stupidity that is now taking place will be removed. In the meantime be vigilant or you could be killed.

Loki. Seems to me that in a previous post Seamut stated he worked either for Hydro, or in the power business for 40 years. This should be our first indication that he has been indoctrinated.

Furthermore he seems to have problems with determining the difference between a natural gas plant located in the Hart Industrial Area, ie; in the area of Salmon Valley, 20klm from Prince George, and Sumas 2 that was being located in a highly populated area.

Last but not least, when he see’s that for all intents and purposes he has lost the debate, he refers to nimbys and tin hats, which fortifies one’s suspicions that he knows a lot less than he would have you believe.

This brings us to the old saying.

**There are none so blind as those who will not see**

In 1738 this phrase was used by Jonathan Swift in his *Polite Conversation* and is first attested in the United States in the 1713 *Works of Thomas Chalkley*. The full saying is:

**There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know**

So for the moment, it is probably best to end this discussion and give seamut a rest.

Everyone in favour of the site c dam please forfeit your homes and property now, as you think all those that will have their homes and property taken from them should, if this project ever gets off the ground.

To many morons with drivers licences to understand this simple request metalman!

Figured since moving the Celebration of Lights to the Railway Museum, admission would be cheaper, but nooooo… They are charging Museum prices.. Guess we won’t be taking in the lights this year

That all you got no factual refute, a real laugh riot.

Just see where Shaw is raising it’s internet rates by 10%. What’s another $8.00+ a month from my pension? A lot of the extras that aren’t required in my life will be going soon. Oh ya, and BC being the only province in Canada to charge seniors a medicare premium has just raised it another $5.00a month. Soon the choice will be do I eat or fill my prescription.

Loki,

I didn’t say that the Rothschilds were not involved in banking prior to the 18th century – I said, quite consistent with the Wikipedia article, that that is when they came to prominence. As the the passage you quote indicates, it was in the second part of the 18th century that they made the transition from “court Jews” to international bankers. And you will find that neither that Wikipedia article nor any serious historical source supports your claim that the Rothschilds financed most major conflicts over a period of hundreds of years.
