Iskut On the ‘Grid’
Iskut, B.C.- Clean electricity has arrived in the community of Iskut, 430 kilometers north of Terrace.
BC Hydro says the delivery of electricity is several months ahead of schedule.
The connection was made possible because of the completion of the Northwest Transmission Line (NTL) this past summer. NTL received a capital contribution from the federal Green Energy Fund, with the condition that BC Hydro connect Iskut to its grid within a year of the NTL coming into service.
“Connecting Iskut to the grid will provide a clean, reliable supply of power to the community” says Minister of Energy and Mines, Bill Bennett, “It’s also part of a larger project that will play an important role in the economic development of northwest B.C. by delivering power to a growing region.”
The current diesel powered generator that has been providing the community with power will act as a back up until it is decommissioned sometime in 2016.
