Snow Removal Budget for 2014 “On Target”
Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George is right on target to meet its $5.8 million snow removal budget for 2014.
“We’re on target to meet that this year. We have some space in the budget but a heavy snow event can definitely impact that,” says associate director of public works Gina Layte Liston.
She says the budget is measured each year from January to December and is currently sitting at $5.3 million.
Layte Liston says it was another story in 2013 when the budget was $5 million and they spent $5.8 million.
She says a contingency fund is in place to deal with such years.
“Yes. The way the budgets are set up is that anything that’s left over goes into our reserve. And that reserve can be used in heavy snowfall years. For the last number of years we’ve had to be over budget because of the snowfall and ice control.”
Layte Liston says the snow removal budget for 2015 will be $6.3 million.

I hope the budget is on target, plows been out once this winter..lol.
But it is good information that Gina shared about a heavy snowfall impacting the budget.. Guessing if I eat more my grocery Bill will increase. Lol
This is a hilarious statement to make, with all the heavy snowfalls we’ve had to date. How could they “not” be on target? LMAO
P Val and Grizzly2…
The spending of the snow removal budget began on January 01, 2014 and will continue until the end of the year on December 31, 2014. The snow removal budget encompasses a calendar year, which splits the snow plowing season over two budgetary years…so, yes, from a budget perspective, it is good that we have had less snow in this part of 2014. Of course, the article does explain this process in the third sentence. You must have missed it.
Thank you.
So I guess what they are saying then is that there is no budget for snow removal. If it’s on target because there hasn’t been any snow.
At this rate they will have to truck snow in for the winter games.lol
Billy69.. Um.. Duh..lol. Everyone knows the budget goes for a year. Also,it’s not good we have so little snow..you do know we are hosting the winter games in 2015 don’t you ? Winter games need snow, you must have missed us hosting the games…lol
Genius!!! No snow and they are on budget. I am so impressed!! Seriously, I really like this council but let’s be realistic in the reporting. Let’s hope we are saying this next year at this time.
duu, they had ummm 8 inches maybe 10, then all the equipement was out for 2 weeks double shift. Wait till we get some snow, its going to get expensive. Maybe it was 3 weeks. just saying.

Ummm…gee…I thought most people did, but judging by your first post…well…I remember the plows being out in January, February, and March of 2014. I guess you didn’t. As for the rest of your comment…No sh!+ Sherlock! Of course, the Winter Games need snow…but this article has nothing to do with the Winter Games, it has to do with the budget for plowing the streets of the city. Two different budgets, two different events.
Thank you.
Billy. Lol.. This winter starts after the fall.. Jan feb March 2014 was last winter. So the yearly budget spans over two winters..do you think we only have one season here ? As for two different budgets.. Kind of but not really, all paid for by tax payers.. May be a different budget but all comes from the same coffers.
Did they hire a consultant to tell em that ??/ some smart ppl out there..
P Val…
Thank you for confirming everything I said previously in your last post…it only took three times, but you are finally coming around. All this rain must be making you soggy.
Thank you.
Actually you came around to reality thanks to me..lol
Should have about 5 million left. They didn’t have any road maintenance in Jan,Feb or March of 2014 either.
Don’t pat yourself on the back bureaucrats! You are a prime example of complete inefficiency and incompetence!!! We, the taxpayers of PG pay the price!
