Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George will have snow equipment  out and operating  over the  holidays should there be another  significant snow dump.“If we have a snow event, we will have full crews working  through the holiday season” says Gina Layte-Liston, Associate  Director of Public Works for the City of Prince George

Layte-Liston says all staff have been advised that  they  can expect a call to  come to work  should there be a major snow dump, “There’s no question, there are people on holidays, but when you’re working in snow and ice control, the expectation is there that  if there is a major snow event, the  crews will be out on the  road.”

This is also the time when  folks are  entertaining guests and family  and it’s important  those visitors be  reminded of the  parking restrictions says Layte-Liston “parking  restrictions will continue throughout the holiday season  there’s no  question that if we have a snow event, those parking restrictions   will be in force and we need to make sure we can get those roads clear and safe.”

It may be the  holiday season, but  there won’t be any holiday from the ticketing or towing of vehicles violating the  parking restriction bylaws “There is a possibility that if you are parked on a residential street from 8 am to 6 p.m,  that  the bylaw will be enforced.”

Need a refresher course on  parking restrictions?  Here’s the skinny:

Priority 1’s and 2’s   :   collector roads, bus routes,   central business district-  no parking from 10 p.m. to  7 a.m.  and downtown  midnight to 7 a.m.

Residential (priority 3)   no  parking  on residential  streets from 8 am to 6 p.m..  Overnight,  there is no parking on the even  numbered  side of the road.

“It’s about  those crews being able to get in,  make the roads accessible  and safe.”

While the parking restriction bylaw is not new,  the times have been  changed  for the downtown,  “We believe  people are  getting the message”  says Layte-Liston “The amount that we are having to enforce is decreasing, but it can all depend on the snow event also.  Anytime we have the opportunity to educate,  we take it.”

She reminds residents there  will still be plenty of information on snow removal  operations over  Christmas and New Year’s both  through  e-notify and  the City’s website.

A significant ‘snow event’? What about all the insignificant snow in these warmer temperatures that can produce a lot of ice on the streets?

‘Snow event’! You sure have to love all these new terms politicians and bureaucrats come up with to try and sound edumicated and impordant.

Would a snow event be covered under the rain water tax or would a snow event be separate entity.

Under the heading of things to do in PG “snow event” can now be added. With the use of the word event it is almost like City Hall is scheduling what was once called a snow storm.

Have an eventful holiday season. Whoops, was not really wishing for snow.

They are the host city of the Canada winter games. A snow event is the very first event to start the winter games.

Thanks to everyone who works to keep the rest of us going, even on special holidays . . . nurses, police and even road crews. I know there are many more.

Sorry to change the subject.

Resident: “Would a snow event be covered under the rain water tax or would a snow event be separate entity. ”

The storm tax and snow removal budget are two separate things.

In any case, what a difference a year makes. Last year was a shameful debacle.

I hope the plows are needed soon, hard to host the winter games with none of that white stuff :)

Just wait, there might be a sun and wind tax coming too. Lol

Let’s be thankful for the positive gifts we received just in time: A new thoughtful mayor, the re-election of worthwhile incumbents and the addition of *raring to go and make a difference* new councillors! And. last but not least the great outcome of the democratic referendum!

We are headed in a new direction!

All in all something to be very happy about!

Well spoken PrinceGeorge.
