Northern Health New Year’s Baby a Boy
Thursday, January 1, 2015 @ 12:23 PM
Prince Geo4rge, B.C.- The first baby of 2015 in the province of B.C. is a boy, born at the Peace Arch hospital in White Rock just seconds after midnight.
The first baby of 2015 within the Northern Health region, is also a boy, 8 lb Redmond Lawrence Fitzgerald, born at the Ft. St. John Hospital at 12:52 this morning.
Redmond is the first child for mom Lyeah Lamb and dad Bruce Fitzgerald of Fort St. John .
There is no telling when Prince George will welcome its first babe of 2015 as there is no mom- to- be in the maternity ward, although that doesn’t discount the possibility of a delivery outside the University Hospital of Northern B.C, with the assistance of a mid-wife.

Another silly human tradition, conferring special status on children born closest to the beginning of January 1st. Just as silly as jumping into frigid waters for absolutely no other reason than it’s become a popular culture tradition.
There is nothing “new” that happens on January 1st, nothing. It’s completely arbitrary and without significance. Why not link it with one of the solstices or some other astronomical event of actual significance to the Earth? You could ring in the new year on the winter solstice, or the perihelion the point in the year that the Earth comes closest to the sun round about January 4th, the autumnal equinox, the vernal equinox. Anything other than January 1st, which is not significant in any way.
All children, no matter when they’re born, should be special to their parents. At least they should be. This nonsense of the “New Years’ Baby” is just that – nonsense. This type of thinking is linked to the same sort of metaphysical nonsense that started astrology and continues to influence the uneducated and weak-minded people of the world.
“Another silly human tradition”, yes possibly…
whether we like it or not….
no one is hurt by it….
but as there is no harm and no foul,
let us let it be….
if we cancelled all the traditional clebrations
there wouldn’t be much left to live for.
Have a Happy New Year all and congratulations to all the babys born this year whether born today or December 31 or anywhere in between.
Sine Nomine: you hung over today or what?
Sine Nomine, you’ve been a bit grumpy lately! A lump of coal in your Christmas stocking perhaps??
Maybe it’s silly and arbitrary, but like bcracer says, it’s not hurting anyone.
Sine Nomine a New Year’s Baby may have been an April Fool’s Day conception. Not sure what if any cosmic significance this would have though. A balancing of yin & yang perhaps.
It is what we call “FUN”, Sheesh, in the hard Canadian winters, it is fun to do, fun to read, fun to know about…Chill, dude, Chill….have some FUN.
