Education Dispute Top Story of 2014 – Insights West

Prince George, B.C. – The labour dispute between the provincial government and the BC Teachers Federation was the top story of 2014.

That according to Vancouver polling firm Insights West.

The second and third most popular stories revolved around natural resource development with the ongoing debate about the Northern Gateway pipeline coming in a close second and the debate over the Kinder Morgan pipeline finishing third.

In fourth spot was crime in Surrey and rounding out the top five was the tailings pond breach at Mount Polley.

Rounding out the top ten was the conclusion of the “Surrey Six” murder trial (6th) followed by the Translink/SkyTrain Shutdown, the apology to the Chinese community for “historical wrongs,” Trevor Linden joining the Vancouver Canucks and LNG.

The top newsmaker was Christy Clark (42%) followed by labour negotiator Vince Ready (26%).
