Northern MP’s Look Forward to Election Year
Prince George, B.C. – A federal election is tentatively scheduled for October 19th this year and two of BC’s northern Members of Parliament have weighed in.
First elected in 2011, Prince George-Peace River Conservative MP Bob Zimmer says it’s come quick.
“This whole three and a half years has gone by like a whirlwind. So we’ll be preparing for a campaign and hopefully we’ll come out the other side with a majority government. We’ll see.”
He figures his government is in a good position considering Canada has done a good job weathering global economic challenges.
“As the Prime Minister has said we’re relatively good. It’s not saying we’re necessarily without challenges in Canada with the low oil prices and other things but we’ve done a lot of work on trade to make sure we weather these storms well.”
And above all Zimmer says most voters cast ballots with their pocketbooks in mind.
“Yes. I think what people care about most of all is their jobs and their economic situation at home.”
On the other side of the aisle Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP MP Nathan Cullen is seeking his 5th mandate from voters and says his party is ready to govern.
“I think that’s what the last more than three years has been about. We’ve been building up our strength, particularly on the economics, getting a better relationship with the banks, industry and players in this country.”
And though they won’t be campaigning with Jack Layton at the helm he feels Tom Mulcair is the man to lead them to victory.
“He’s not Jack and doesn’t try to be Jack which is a great strength. A real mistake is to try and be somebody you’re not. I think Tom’s impressed a lot of people with his intelligence and his ability to hold forth in Question Period and really back Mr. Harper on his back heels.”
And though his party continues to trail both the Liberals and Conservatives in the polls he figures it will be a tight race to the finish.
“I think when you look at the three leaders they’re all quite different. Mr. Harper’s got his thing, Mr. Trudeau as well and Mr. Mulcair has obviously shows himself to be an incredibly competent and smart guy so I think it’s going to be a three way race, I really do.”
Comments
Conservatives will not form a majority government, Harper has made sure of that.
I love you Sine Nomine. If Harper is re-elected their will no longer be a Canada. This guy is poison.
Cheers
Facts, folks facts.
yessss fact facts facts… HARPER WILL NOT GET IN… and noooooo I’m not smoking
My prediction is that the best candidate will be chosen for this most important position. PM Harper has an advantage, as we already know what to expect from him.
Justin Trudeau has very little experience on the world stage and from the interviews I have seen, I am very concerned that he is way over his head. We need a decisive leader, not wishy washy!
Tom Mulcair has come across as a hot head on many occasions. I am worried about his lack of control if he was in charge. We have seen a steady diet of what he is against, but, what is he really going to do differently?
In the end, polls are not accurate. If people want change, then the alternatives better be very convincing in how they will be different. Those sitting on the fence will default back to what they know if they aren’t sure what a change will mean.
Not pounding the table on Harper, but he clearly is the leader of this bunch to run Canada in the screwed up world we are up against. We are in for an economic explosion and JT has zero comprehension of the ramifications. He’s a friggin drama teacher people.
There are some policies I would like to slap Harper for, but really, their is no rational alternative. Prentice was one but he took on Alberta.
Stillsmokin, yep you have whip it out boy and I’m against everything Mulcair, yep quite the alternatives.
Having said that we have procurement programs for new military equipment that keep dragging on with no results. No decent icebreakers. Poor support for veterans. Money wasted in the climate change scam. All parties to blame.
STOP the Harpertiod…..most Dangerous man in Power….like Putin said…GAS BAG and WORST PM ever in the History…LIAR,CHEATER and 1st Gov. ever to held in CONTEMPT…Supreme Court…this dirtbag thumbs his nose at out TOP courts??
Is this what you voted for Sheeppl?
As for J.T he going to steam roll the CONS back to TARSANDS…..
Zybixyeu, feel better now.
Could you imagine how easy life must be to not worry about foreign policy, economy, jobs, the environment – not a care in the world, just blindly vote for the guy who you think will legalize weed. Wow the blissful ignorance would be awesome.
Baaaa, baaaa….Sheeppl…you fools…4-5 more yrs of this dirtbag…Eh! intercourse??
Zyblxteu.. Aka “people#1” & “beinghuman” welcome back..
even people#1 was somewhat coherent . zyb.. or what ever is mental.
Regardless of which party you support, it’s absurd to believe that one person can have the expertise to run an entire country on their own. They all need help.
I’m more interested to see who will be the supporting cast of names running for each party. To me, that gives a better indication as to the potential effectiveness of a government than constantly focusing on the leader.
I think the Conservatives are probably going to win (much to my chagrin) but it will be a minority Gov’t. Harper & Co. need to be kept on a very short leash.
I’d be a happy guy if just Peter MacKay got his ass handed to him at election time. His Liberal opponent (David MacLeod) is going to be a tough one for the Conservatives in the Central Nova riding. He’s ex-military (27 years) in a military riding, where Harper and cronies have shown much disdain for veterans affairs.
The Conservatives would be better off if Harper walked away into the sunset before the election. But his ego and arrogance will never let that happen.
No mention of Todd Dougherty in the article?
Kinda strange.
It will feel great to vote liberal and for a new younger more in reality leader that isn’t stuck in 1965 like Stephen Harper.
Best part of signing up as a conservative to vote out Shari green?
Voting liberal in the next election!
Bahahahahaba!
The chickens came home to roost! And guess who got shat on???
Conservative-reform-alliance-Party= Crappers…11yrs of captain goofball and crew…he can find the coffee pot, can’t smell the coffee.
The problem with JT is that the best thing about him is his hair. That’s not a good thing for a leader.
zyblxteu After reading your disgusting comments, If you can run for the Prime Minister’s position and do a great job go for it, see how many votes you would get? Just remember the majority of the Canadians voted for Harper. He is one of the better leaders of Canada. All the polls stated at the last election It was going to be a minority government…..hmmmmm. That tells me something, I do not make a habit of putting other leaders down, No government is going to please everyone. Just sayin
Lildigger I think Harper would have only been 6 years old in 65, please clarify your point?
Really seamut? You need clarification for lildigger’s comment? That says a lot. Or does that need clarification too?
Dow 70. …who the he’ll are you to criticize JTrudeau by saying he is a drama teacher? Teaching was just one of his vocations. He went back to McMaster in Quebec. AND compleTed a law degree. No way should any intelligent voter vote for Harper. He back stabbed the middle class with all his give aways to the corporate lobbyists re temporary forein workers. He allowed sell offs of Canadian companies to communist China. He signed the F IPA Agreement with Chinese that reduces Canadian sovereiget.
gg.666..do the math…60% of the country did not vote as they was to busy to got off their BUTTS to go vote …HE did that!!this trash..on the hill…
LIAR,THIEF,CHEATER,TREASON,CLOSET QUEEN,May get minority…if his plane does not crash…or get ebola….may Putin will throw him in a Gulag…
hummer …got one the other nite…
Zyblxteu.. People don’t vote anymore because it doesn’t matter what party gets in anymore. Each candidate tells the voters what they want to hear to get the votes, then once elected the ruling party does whatever it wants. Our MPs don’t look out for us.. They do what they are told and vote how they are told… Tow the party line.. If they don’t they will never be a minister or see their career advance… I am sure some politicians really want to make life for us better, but once they see all the back donor deals they realize there is nothing they can do but go along.
zyblxteu did you forget to take your Zyprexa Zydis meds?
Uh seamut, it is called pandering to the religious right that want to live in 1965. Harper is scared of young people’s free minds. He prefers old and stupid folks that vote and don’t mind being sheople. Why were Canadians fighting in Afghanistan and why are we drippbg bombs in Iraq/Syria? Answer? Because 1965erS are stood enough to believe harpers ignorant rhetoric.
Any other silly questions seamut?
Lildigger look up the definition of sarcasm.
Pull the blankets over your head that will make the boogie man go away.
Welcome back people #1
Maxima, jt is a walking talking idiot. Watch the upcoming adds supplied by this guy, he is bizaar. Harper has his issues but any rational person who thinks JT is a solution needs serious therapy.
I have to agree with NMG. Its a team job that Harper does not seem to understand. A lot of these religious freaks do not understand the real world.
Cheers
I don’t quite get the comments that ‘if Harper is re-elected there will no longer be a Canada’ when the country seems to be more united right now than it ever was under all the previous governments from Lester Pearson onwards.
There currently isn’t any huge push from Quebec to separate, nor one from the west. Do we want to return to when there was? We here in BC got rid of the hated HST, without any interference from Harper. Even though that tax was of enormous benefit to the Federal government at our expense. Would that ever have been allowed to happen if the Liberals had been in office Federally?
Yes, there are ‘religious freaks’ in the Conservative caucus. But where have their perceptions of how things should be come to pass under Harper? Is abortion not still legal? Are we jailing homosexuals again for doing what they want to do consentualy? There are, of course, some hopelessly outdated ‘Biblical perceptions’ Harper has failed to overturn. The worst one being St. Paul’s dictum, “Let no man amongst ye eat who has not first worked.” That might’ve held true in the very real proposition of scarcity of the 1st Century AD, and for 18 centuries or so after, where EVERY man’s shoulder WAS needed in production, but is totally ridiculous today where glut is by far the greater problem. But Trudeau or Mulcair don’t recognise that either.
