P.G. Legion Welcomes Fantino’s Dismissal
Prince George, B.C. – Positive reaction today to news Julian Fantino has been ousted as Veterans Affairs Minister.
“My initial reaction is very welcome news and a cheer,” says John Scott, legion zone commander for BC/Yukon.
“Here in Prince George we suffered the results of his closing our Veterans Affairs office (2012). You know this hogwash that Service Canada can do the job is just that – hogwash.”
He adds the closure has placed a burden on veterans in the area.
“Veterans need to be face to face with Veterans Affairs. They need someone to talk to and to follow-up.”
Scott, who by coincidence will lobby Prince George City Council for support in re-opening those offices tonight, says he doesn’t know much about Fantino’s replacement, rookie MP Erin O’Toole, but likes that he’s a former air-force officer.
“I’m sure as a veteran he’ll at least have some idea of what veterans need. Fantino did not understand or sympathize with veterans issues.”
And he hopes one of O’Toole’s first moves will be to re-open the Veterans Affairs office in Prince George.
“I can’t understand why you would close that office,” adding “I hope this means we’ll get a turnover in the attitude towards veterans from the top bureaucracy.”

Finally, someone in Ottawa listened. Good Riddance!
So, how many people do you think are going to be calling or visiting the Veteran’s Affairs office? 2 or 3? If that is all it really doesn’t make good sense to pay someone to sit in an office 40 hours a week. It is our tax money after all.
You got it duffer. As a veteran all my contacts for service went to the Penticton office or Vancouver. I never could find the Veterans Affair office in PG. And Nov 11 Mr Scot had all his club members in the Veterans section
Cheers
Fantino got his orders from Harper. Harper is still in power so the problem remains.
