Be a Good Neighbour and Help Shovel Urges Seniors Council

Tuesday, January 6, 2015 @ 3:46 PM

Prince George, B.C. – The recent blast of snow has the Prince George Council of Seniors (PGCOS) urging residents to be good neighbours.

General manager Lola Dawn Fennell says that includes helping out the elderly and those with mobility issues with their snow shoveling.

“Look around in your own community and if you see someone who isn’t shoveled out or is having difficulty shoveling themselves out, please be a good neighbour and good friend and go lend a hand.”

If you still have some energy to burn she says the PGCOS is accepting volunteers.

“Give us a call at 250-564-5888 and we will try to match you up with somebody who needs assistance and hopefully in the same geographical area so that there’s not a lot of traveling included.”

Fennell says they’ll accept as many volunteers as they can get and has the following advice for someone who isn’t sure if they should be shoveling snow themselves.

“If you are not used to playing tennis vigorously, walking briskly, or swimming laps vigorously you probably shouldn’t be snow shoveling.”

Very good idea. I did five today, including my own. I even picked up an 8′ frying pan that had been thrown out on fire! Broke a shear bolt on one auger. Ha, ha.

Hubby, (a senior too) did 4 driveways (with the snowblower) today.

Your day sounds like mine. Only difference I found an extension cord wrapped around my auger.I found if you want to be a good samaritan and snowblow others driveway buy lots of shear bolts or go clean their driveways before snow flys.

You wimps and your snow blowers. I shoveled two today. LOL

GRIZZ do you pack out moose quarters also?

Wish I coulda, woulda made my day! If you did, save the tongue for me!

maverick 1965: I did this commercially for three years. Extension cords, garden hoses, bricks, rocks, toys one telephone cable, and I can’t remember all the rest. Door mats. Yeah, a good one picks up whatever is in its way.
And Grizz does pack out moose quarters too.

Wow, an eight foot frying pan. You must have a big snow blower.

Just in case my neighbour reads 250….
Nice job you old fool. Its great you got a brand new snow blower Dave, but you unloaded your entire driveway on to the just plowed road. I hope the people on the other side of you that have to try and drive through that stop and knock on your door.

Typical Prince George , instead of knocking the guy who did all the driveways , dosen’t matter if he used a shovel , snowblower or a horse he did the job can’t we not give a big THANK YOU to Give More and quit the smart remarks .

Give More’s older’n dirt. I’ll razz him any day.
