Prince George, B.C. – Preparations for the 28th Prince George Iceman are shaping up nicely.

“Everything is coming along great. The ski course is all set up and signed,” says registrar Jim Van Bakel.

“Everything else looks like we’re starting to get all our volunteers in place and now we’re just waiting.”

He says some events this year makes this year’s competition a little different.

“We’re earlier than usual which is unique then of course it being the 100th anniversary of Prince George. We’re going to try and play that in a little bit. Working around the Canada Winter Games is a little unique as well.”

Van Bakel also hopes the weather cooperates, noting last year’s event was cancelled for just the second time due to cold weather adding “you just never know what you’re going to get.”

He says the registration deadline is next Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. and says he’s pleased with how many people have signed up so far.

“I think we’re sitting at about 280 registered and that’s pretty good for around now. Hopefully we have a big push in this last week here. For the last three years registration has varied anywhere between 350 to 430.”

He says people can register on their online site here and encourages people to look for any last minute announcements through their website, Facebook page or Twitter feed.

The event takes place Sunday, January 25th.
