St. Albert Residents No Longer in Danger

Saturday, January 17, 2015 @ 12:17 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Alberta RCMP headquarters in Edmonton has provided an update regarding the suspect in the shooting of two members of the St. Albert detachment in that community, just northwest of Edmonton, early this morning.

That update from Alberta RCMP Media Relations contains this information: “The suspect who shot two RCMP officers earlier this morning in a St. Albert casino has been located. The police are not in a position to release his identity at this time. That information will be forthcoming as the investigation continues. There is no longer any public safety threat related to this incident.

Although the suspect has been located, police are asking the public to avoid the area southeast of the Sturgeon Valley Golf Course until further notice. The police investigation is still underway at the casino where the shootings took and police ask the public to stay away from that location as well.”

The RCMP is not saying whether the suspect is alive, whether he has been taken into custody or whether he might be holed up in a location.

The two officers spotted a stolen vehicle outside the casino at about 3 o’clock MT this morning. When they went inside the casino both were shot by the suspect and did not manage to return gunfire.   The suspect fled the scene on foot.

One of the officers has been reported throughout the morning as in “very grave” condition. The other officer is listed as “serious but stable.”   Their names have not been released.
