“Super Fan”
Prince George, B.C. – When the Prince George Cougars host the Everett Silvertips tomorrow night Ryan Fournier will be taking in the action from his usual spot near centre ice.
The CNC student and Kitimat native hasn’t missed a game (or many practices for that matter) since the team’s ownership change last year.
“I’ve been a fan for about two years since the Brodsky era but last year was tough. I couldn’t see that so I took a year off. But it’s a lot more enjoyable to spend the money and go and be a part of the team now.”
What makes Ryan’s dedication to the Cougars special is he has cerebral palsy and gets around in his scooter.
“Some fans when I talk to them they get emotional because being born with a disability I’ve never had a chance to play hockey and that was my dream.”
He also says his passion for the team has been recognized by Cougar players and coaching staff.
“The players see me, coach Holick absolutely likes having me around. He takes the time to say hi to me.”
Ryan says his ultimate goal is to be a sports broadcaster.
“Either in radio, writing, or colour commentary. That’s my biggest goal.”
As for his hopes for the Cats this season he’s hoping they can squeak out a playoff spot.
“The expectation every year is to make the playoffs, but I want to see them come together as a team not as individuals.”
Ryan’s devotion to the Cougars hasn’t gone unnoticed by the team’s front office either.
“The Prince George Cougars are lucky to have such dedicated fans. Ryan is a great example of the kind of committed community members that keep us going. We love having Ryan at our games,’ says Marnie Hamagami, director of sales & marketing.
“Ryan is a super fan, you can see him around town in his Cougars Gear always talking about the team, it’s great, and motivating,”says Hamagami.
