Prince George, B.C. -The success of the Cirque du Soleil Dralion  performances in Prince George, was cause for celebration at Prince George City Council.

CN Centre’s Glen Mikkelson  advised the marketing folks  with Cirque had hoped to sell 15 thousand tickets , but in the end, an extra show was added and a total of 24 thousand tickets had been sold.  “The people of Prince George and the region  really embraced Cirque” said Mikkelson, who added the response was so  positive “It has really put Prince George on the radar for the Cirque du Soleil marketers.”

Mayor Lyn Hall thanked Mikkelson  for his dedication to bringing the  Cirque show to Prince Georgem noting it had taken nearly a decade to make it happen.

The Cirque troop was so happy  with the reception it received from the  City and the region, the  cast signed one of its banners  as a keepsake for the City.

“The Cirque shows really put everyone in  the area in the mood to celebrate the year  ahead” says Mikkelson.

24,000 tickets at $100 = lots of money for cirque. But all that money leaves town. Not an employment generator for the local economy. But hey the signed a banner.

and they don’t pay their fair share of taxes either.

Congratulations to Glen and the whole CN Centre team for this amazing entertainment option for us. It’s amazing how far our city has come from the days when Trooper was the biggest act we could get, to these days when we get anything and everything that can possibly fit in our arena. (And even some that can’t really fit like Carrie Underwood but she came anyway!). Prince George is on the map for all major entertainment and we owe most of it to the great team at CN Centre.

Isn’t there PST on the tickets? And don’t the performers spend money on accommodation and meals?

OMG,listen to you two miserable, negative sods.
If a lot of people like my wife and I went out for dinner, and then went to watch this amazing show (yes we have seen Cirque shows in Vegas)it did generate money for this town via restaurants, hotels, shopping etc.Climb back under your rock and wait for the apocolypse, Holy Sh#$! PATHETIC!

dragonmaster , lildigger ,,, Debbie downer … all the same.

Well said fuceneh!

You’re correct. Most of that money left town. As did the profits Brodsky made on the Cougars but people still supported them. More money leaves town when people fly to Las Vegas because they can’t see the show here. Money leaves town when people rent movies on apple tv, buy music on-line, etc. Money also leaves town when we bring in food from California, but we do get food in return. Well, money left town with Cirque, and we got a mind blowing 2 hour show in return. And now the word is out, in spite of not having a Performing Arts Centre the knuckle dragging residents of Prince George can actually enjoy and appreciate an artistic event. Who knew? I guess Mikkelson did.

:)

Do you guys really think that most of the money going through the ticketmaster office stays here, no matter what the event. Ticketmaster historically takes the bigger piece of pie. ( remember why pearl jam stopped touring in the states for quite a few years).

Itta all good as long as the new mayor and council can have a photo op.
Pretty cheery looking bunch.
Just wait, 3 years before they pull out the knives 6 months before the next election.

“remember why pearl jam stopped touring in the states for quite a few years” .. um, no talent?

So how long before all money has left town with all this money sucking entertainment?.

Remember, there are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Majority of tickets were well under $100. We were row 17 and they were $45 + ticket master stuff, kids were $37 same row. It was an awesome show. Sad you missed it grumpy and friends.

Probably the best show I have ever saw in the CN Center. Money in PG or not! My family loved and that’s all that matters. Keep bringing shows like this to town. Great for the community. All the Debbie downers make me sick with all there complaints. I suppose we should not build or do anything in this town that would lead to fun or create entertainment.
Wow you guys are brutal! My kids were mesmerized by the talent on that stage. Good enough for me!

Right on, Fuceneh, monkeyboots and shameless :-)

And U2 ski51 – I bet your comment about PAC gets some real negative feedback from the downers :-)

I hope my comment didn’t need a sarc tag?

I think it’s great that we had a Cirque show in town. It was a great night of entertainment for my family and me. I just don’t think that we needed to spend any time on “recognizing” the event and taking photographs. Just hang the freaking banner somewhere and get on with it. Let’s not forget that Mr. Mikkelsen is well paid for his job and it is his job to bring good entertainment into town. If he doesn’t, he should be let go. If he does, he keeps his job.
