Council Holds Off on Application for Fed Funds
Prince George, B.C. – Staff at City of Prince George will be taking a closer look at capital projects that might qualify for funding under a Federal Program.
The New Building Canada fund makes dollars available for certain types of projects, including solid waste management. There has been a push by residents in the Hart Highlands area that any available funding be directed to their sewer installation project.
But staff had prepared an application for the Fraser River Bench Land Outfall Remediation. This project is to construct infrastructure to mitigate against future erosion and to remediate erosion that has previously occurred. The current state of this ravine is deteriorated and represents a potential liability to the City.
But Council is very aware of the cost issues facing residents in the Hart Highlands, and would like to review that project and see if it would qualify for the federal funding.
The approval of a project application for the New Building Canada funds will be delayed until the February 2nde meeting of Council. The deadline for the filing of the application is Feb. 18th.

Build a dyke, energy system?
Maybe an overpriced police station with no covered parking?
Call it the Stolz parkade?

I agree with the sentiment, the issue with the police station was the city needed a new one, it was the architectural design that required work that was not required for a police station, also I am sure that it could have been amended to include underground parking without all of outside features that raised its costs (not to mention the additional interior costs resulting from its irregular shape)
