Prince George, BC – Premier Christy Clark  used the platform of the Resource forum in Prince George to launch the Mining for Miracles Campaign.

“Everyday, the resource  sector makes a  big contribution to creating  healthy  communities across the province” says Premier Clark “and the mining industry is going one step further with  it’s  Mining for Miracles campaign.  Over 20 years, they have raised  $23 million dollars to  support BC Children’s Hospital and today, I am proud to be part  of kicking off the 2015 Mining for Miracles campaign.”

It is the first time the campaign has been launched outside of Vancouver.  On hand for the launch were  Jamieson Jones, his sister Sarah, and father Doug.  Jamieson has spent a lot of time at BC Children’s Hospital undergoing cancer treatment.  Premier Clark says more than 600 families from Prince George alone  use B.C. Children’s Hospital “It is there for every British Columbian” says the Premier.

The  mining industry plans to raise $3 million dollars this year and next  to further  strengthen care for children.  The Premier then  upped the anti  “I am proud to announce we have a matching commitment of $1 million dollars from the B.C. government through Genome BC to support  Mining for Miracles and help them establish what they are going to call the ‘Causes Clinic’.  The  Clinic will use advanced DNA testing for some  of the ‘mystery’ illnesses of children, illnesses that  take a  long time to  diagnose.  The Clinic will  reduce the number of tests and visits  to hospital that a child will have to make  while at the same time  improving the odds of   diagnosing the illness much sooner.”

The Premier also  offered to write a note for Jamieson  that he can take to school to explain why he missed classes in order to attend the special announcement.
