“The 40 year old adult male victim was transported by the BC Ambulance Service to the University Hospital of Northern BC for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.” This almost sounds like no harm no foul – he didn’t die. Lots of harm still fits in that category. This person may never walk again, or never be able to do the things they enjoy, or may face months of rehab, maybe loss of income – and a battle with ICBC for hit and run benefits. All because someone didn’t want to stick around and face the music and possibly lose their safe driver discount and get a ticket. Anyway, the point is not being dead doesn’t mean it wasn’t serious.
Over and over on this site I mention the hazards that pedestrians face in crosswalks in this city. Austin Road and Highway 97 is terrible!!! I have never seen a police presence in this area. Why are we paying the big dollars for policing in the City of PG? The building they are in cost the taxpayers (land owners) of PG 40 million dollars when a building of far less cost could have been constructed to do the job. Who at City Hall wanted to construct a monument in the name of the police?

The entire length of the Hart Highway within City limits is unsafe for pedestrians and bicyclists in my opinion. Of course there are several stretches where you can walk/ride on a side street beside the main road, but they’re not continuous and not all of the connecting trails are cleared of snow, plus there is the lack of adequate lighting in several areas, and don’t get me started on the lack of a safe walking and riding route to get into the bowl from the Hart.
metalman.
Biking down the hart is extremely dangerous for sure, no safe route can be found or used. But I believe just putting your head down and walking across a road is a foolish move. You can do that same thing only with your head up and looking both ways until you get across this dangerous stretch.
