Warm Weather Won’t Derail PG Iceman

Sunday, January 25, 2015 @ 4:00 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Despite unseasonably warm temperatures today’s Prince George Iceman is still a go.

“It’s definitely still a go minus the ice skate at the oval,” says registrar Jim Van Bakel.

He says just under 550 people are registered to take part which is higher than the 350 to 430 people who participated in events the past few years.

Van Bakel attributes that “partly due to the cancellation last year” and because they offered a 50% reduced rate until January 1st.

He’s also anticipating a good race.

“It’s less than ideal without the skate portion but we’re still expecting everybody to have a lot of fun.”

Van Bakel is also advising participants to wear the proper foot wear.

“It’s very slippery out so be very careful. Hopefully runners are equipped with the proper footwear including spikes for shoes.”
