Phone Scam Prompts Warning From Police

Monday, January 26, 2015 @ 10:35 AM

Dawson Creek, B.C. – A phone scam is making the rounds in Dawson Creek.

Sergeant Ed Reinink says the callers are asking for credit card information to pay unpaid parking tickets.

He notes one victim was scammed out of several thousand dollars late last year.

Police are advising people not to share such information over the phone.

“Any time someone asks for financial information over the phone that should be a red flag,” says North District Corporal Dave Tyreman.

Anyone with any information about this scam is asked to call police.

How many times does it need to be repeated?

Jonny Belt, …how many times does it need to be repeated?
until people get it

simple – don’t recognize the number? let your answering machine take a message – if it’s a scam they will most likely hang up – one can also do a “reverse look-up” of the phone number. and, yes, never give any personal information over the phone, including your name, to someone you don’t know.

What I find funny?? is when the bank calls to market something to me, and seem shocked that I don’t want to talk to them about my banking stuff on the phone, with an added – besides, how do I know you are you? I do the same with Stats Can. I have no idea who is calling me, so I tell them nothing.
