School Board Urged to Consider “Geographical Representation”

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George School Board should follow through on a commitment made during the recent election campaign and implement geographical representation.
The words of Don Sabo, an unsuccessful trustee candidate from last November’s campaign.
“I think it’s important because it offers a direct voice to the board and for the board. Each community has unique issues and it makes it difficult to attract families to smaller communities without direct representation.”
He says all elected trustees agreed to the idea during an all candidates forum in Mackenzie.
Sabo says he’d like the board to consider a dedicated seat for Mackenzie and the Robson Valley.

I attended the meeting in Mackenzie and I don’t remember all of the candidates agreeing to the idea. At best they all agreed to consider it. It’s not even a good idea to introduce members with special geographic areas of concern. This would create a board where one member is a voice for Mackenzie, one for the Robson Valley, and five for the Prince George area. A set up like that virtually guarantees that areas outside of PG would be given the short end of the stick every time.
