Timeline Set for Sam Ketcham Pool Renovation
Williams Lake, B.C. – A timeline has been developed for the renovations to the Sam Ketcham pool in Williams Lake.
The renovations to the pool will take about two years to complete with the next step being finding the consultants to develop detailed designs.
“This project is long overdue” says Central Cariboo Joint Committee Co-Chair, Director Joan Sorley “I am sure the end result will be an aquatic facility which will greatly improve recreation opportunities and could potentially encourage families to relocate to the Central Cariboo.”
Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb, who is the other Co-Chair of the Committee, is pleased the project is moving forward “Although much of the work over the next year is behind the scenes, it is essential to ensuring we get the quality product that our community deserves.”
The Working Group hopes to award service contracts for the architectural design, development of the traffic flow and parking, and project management services in April and May of this year with the development of the detailed design and construction drawings expected to be completed by November. Tender process for construction would take place early in 2016 and construction expected to start in April.
Construction is expected to be completed in October of 2017.
The Cariboo Regional District received a 68% approval in a referendum last fall to borrow up to $10 million dollars for the upgrades. Williams Lake and the Cariboo Regional District have applied for more than $4.5 million in funding from other sources, but won’t know until later this year if those applications have been successful.
