Cariboo Cougars Raise Their Championship Banner Tonight

Saturday, January 31, 2015 @ 3:56 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Prince George residents have a great opportunity to display their civic pride while also giving some well-deserving champions their due tonight.

The Cariboo Cougars kick off their final home stand of the BCMML regular season tonight against the Kootenay Ice, and prior to the game, the Cougars will raise their Mac’s Midget AAA Championship banner to the rafters of the Kin 1 arena. The Cougars of course beat the Regina Pat Canadians 2-1 in double overtime to capture the title at the very prestigious tournament in Calgary on New Year’s Day. First time a Prince George team has won it all.

Also, tonight is the 5th Annual Jameson Jones Night, which was started in 2011 as young Jameson battled cancer at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.  He won the battle. All of the money raised by the Cariboo Cougars through this event goes to help local families who have sick kids who have to travel to the coast for treatment. That’s where donations at the gate tonight will go.

So a couple of good reasons to stop by the Kin 1 arena tonight, whether it be while on your way to the big Cougars’ WHL game against Seattle at CN Centre, or whatever the reason. No doubt the champions would find a packed house pretty cool.

Game time is 7:15pm, with the banner-raising and a puck drop ceremony featuring 2015 Canada Winter Games mascot Nanguz preceding the opening face-off.
