Prince George, B.C. – While some civic facilities will be unavailable for public use during the 2015 Canada Winter Games, the City of Prince George is publishing a special edition of its annual Spring Break Flyer to provide recreational and educational options for residents and visitors from February 13th to March 1st.
The Play during the Games Flyer highlights many programs, activities, and opportunities, including:
- The “Ice Age Mammals” exhibit at Exploration Place opens on Friday, February 13.
- The Two Rivers Gallery will have extended hours every day, and special exhibitions “Elapsed” and “North” in addition to school break creativity camps.
- The YMCA of Northern BC will offer fitness classes, drop-in programs for children and youth, as well as Spring Break Care.
- The top floor of the Prince George Public Library will be closed to the public to function as an athlete’s lounge for the duration of the 2015 Games, but public computers, DVDs and new and high-demand books will be available.
The Play during the Games Flyer can be found on the City’s website or picked up from City Hall.

Not much on that list, what are parents that can’t afford the ‘games events’ tickets to do with their kids. The Y is a ‘same old/same old’ thing’; nothing special here.
So the kids get 2 weeks off school but can’t use the sports facilities…..
Go toboganning, build a snow fort, go skiing, shovel the neighbors driveway. This is a good opportunity to get creative with your kids. Nobody entertained us when we were kids. And, there were no public facilities available every day of the week. If you were lucky, you might have come to town on Saturdays. We all survived.
The ski hills and Otway are closed to the public for CWG events. It will depend on childcare providers, not parents, to come up with creative things for kids to do as the City shuts down to accommodate the CWG athletes.
Boohoo …..parents will actually have to spend time with their kids during spring break what’s the world coming to when parents actually have to take time out during spring break to be parents oh no what a disaster
The railways museum on river road is open and will have a winter games display set up for you to enjoy…. Oh and they are always looking for volunteers – check http://www.pgrfm.bc.ca
But Dearth! -You don’t get it- the parents are going to be working! They don’t get time off for the ‘games’.
Gramma/grampa /kid sitters will have to entertain the kids.
Actually closing the schools in mid February to accommodate the CWG is dirty pool.
They now have two weeks to kill in the middle of winter with most of the facilities that they could use, being closed to them, because of the games.
Would be interesting to know how many teachers, and high school students are also volunteers for the games.
Palopu: “Actually closing the schools in mid February to accommodate the CWG is dirty pool.”
Actually it makes a lot of sense, but I know you hate the fact the games are coming, so I see why you would say that.
