Canada Winter Games Acknowledge UNBC Faculty Association
Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC Faculty Association won’t be going on strike this month and the Canada Winter Games really appreciates it.
“The 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society would like to acknowledge the University of Northern British Columbia Faculty Association for their commitment to ensure all pre-Games and Games time campus related initiatives are not disrupted during their on going contract negotiations,” read a statement Tuesday afternoon.
The Faculty Association has been in a position to start job action since its members voted 85% in favour of going on strike last month.
Games marketing and communications director Mike Davis calls the Faculty Association’s move “just an example of a commitment to the Games and to the actual community to make sure the Games can be delivered.”
A strike would have been crippling to the Games as the Northern Sports Centre is a five sport venue.
The campus is also scheduled to host the Games closing ceremonies March 1.
