2015 Canada Winter Games, The Time is Near
Prince George, B.C.- It has been years in the making, and this afternoon, the final steps will be taken to mark the official opening of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
The last leg of the Torch relay will start at the Canada Games Plaza at 4:30. It will wind its way through downtown, the Crescents neighbourhood, and then to Massey Drive and eventually ending at the CN Centre at the opening ceremonies.
The torch has already travelled through 27 communities throughout northern B.C. since the Illuminate the North Torch relay started last November.
The opening ceremonies are set to start at CN Centre at 7 this evening. The ceremonies will be carried live on TSN, and for those who would like to experience the festival feel of the Games, but not the ticket price of the ceremonies, there will be giant TV screens set up in the Canada Games Plaza so folks can mingle and enjoy all the Plaza has to offer while watching the opening ceremonies.
DJ Ant will be performing at the Canada Games Plaza from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
From 6:15 until 7 p.m. Marcel Gagnon will be performing on the BCLC Stage at the Canada Games Plaza.
The athletic competition gets underway tomorrow, and each day 250News will provide a list of the sporting and cultural events underway in the City.

I was wondering about the TV schedule. On the Shaw guide it doesn’t show up any Canada Winter Games programming? I guess maybe someone never got the memo? Or the TV broadcasters are leaving their options open as to how much of the games will be covered?
TSN2 ch182 7pm to 9pm. Canada Winter Games opening ceremonies live.
I sure hope the nice weather that’s in the forecast doesn’t become an issue. At least they’re calling for sub zero temps at night.
drove through town last night around 9:30 – you would never know that a major event was to happen here – not one banner, streamer or sign to denote the games. only thing “wintery” were the snowflakes on the side of city hall
Don’t forget the huge pile of snow in front of the Courthouse, blocking the view of the building.
wonder if they ever changed the arrow over the street sign at 4th and victoria – last time i was downtown (a couple of weeks ago) it STILL showed 4th as a one-way street. the accidents that may happen there may be more entertaining than these games
Notfromhere,
I am worried if you were driving through town and didn’t see anything about the games. Were you driving with your eyes closed?
There are banners on almost every street downtown and all the major streets outside of downtown.
There are A TON of businesses who stepped up and decorated their exteriors with Games related designs.
Honestly I am flabbergasted you even said this. lol.
really phje?? where are these said banners? i just came from another drive, this time from range road to ospika to 5th to queensway – only sign i saw was at 4th and the ramada inn and the arrow ontop of street sign at 4th and victoria STILL shows 4th as one way – as for businesses decorating i did not see any on 4th so where are all of these decorations you speak of?
A great site to use to watch the games and get results can be found at:
m.canadagames2015.ca. This is the mobile website and includes the Canada games TV channel. For people wanting to get the information on their phone, tablet or computer this is a great site. You can also go on the Canada Winter Games 2015 website and find it there.
notfromhere,
so you are being serious?
I can’t even fathom a response. They are literally EVERYWHERE.
Are you on Hell Yeah PG on facebook? There has been people posting all week showing off business’ decorations.
Save your breath phje, there seems to be a small segment of our society that is so disgruntled with their own sorry lives that they have to complain about everything, even good news stories like this. It used to bother me but I’ve talked to enough of them now to see a trend of sadness so I really just feel sorry for them. Life would be better if they had the ability to enjoy anything and see a positive for what it is, but I’m not their psychiatrist so they will have to figure that out on their own.
Let’s go team BC and Prince George!!
Thanks to all of the volunteers and everyone else who has worked tireessly to put this event together!
interceptor,. Once again you confuse what you deem to be a positive, as a positive for everybody. Rah, Rah,s cannot seem to differentiate between hoopla, and fact.
While the games may be great for some people they are not great for all. You and you ilk do not have a corner on what should or should not be enjoyed by a society.
Individuals have the same right to nay say the games as those who are in favor of them. We are not all civic minded drones, wandering around behind every goofy idea that is put forward by the vested interest groups.
I don’t mind paying some extra taxes for the games, nor do I mind having a venue for the athletes to compete, however for most of the games that will be here in the next few weeks, I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch them.
So in closing, I suggest that you go and enjoy the games, and let the nay sayers, enjoy watching you enjoy.
Who selected these torch bearers? My goodness are there no athletes left in PG to carry the torch! Which young athlete in PG would know Shirley Gratton etc? This city has so many young individuals involved in a varitey of sports that it should be the ones carrying the torch.
I would like to say good luck to everyone involved in the Canada Winter Games and to everybody who wishes to enjoy watching them. Will I venture out to participate in any of the festivities? It’s possible.Have I ever paid much attention to the Canada Winter Games before they came to PG?NO,even though I have participated or watched sports my entire life. The way I think about the Winter Games is that I am proud PG is hosting them, but they are similar to a two week vacation. You may enjoy them now, they will provide little benefit for me personally, five, ten or twenty years from now!
Interceptor, I find it very ironic (not surprising) that Palopu was the first to respond to your post. You obviously struck a nerve. He does have a good point though.. How dare you criticize those who do nothing but criticize others’ contributions while offering no contributions themselves. Basically leave Palopu and some others alone to their misery and let them stew. Merely crows on a fence
Your post hit the nail on the head by the way.
Anyone know what channel on cable the Opening Ceremonies gonna be broadcasted??? I don’t have TSN2
No One actually knows as bowling is not covered anywhere. Does anyone realize that the 2013 Canadian champions were from Prince George? And some of them asked to carry the torch? They were not accepted, but might as well have some no names in there.
winter games are on channel 237 TSN2D(shaw cable)
i wonder if any visitors notice the pot holes. the overpass on 15th going north has a horrible pot hole. Almost swallow a car
so nice planning. Who has TSN2? What a joke.
Apparently everyone has TSN 2 except PG101 and Stillsmokin.
TSN2 did not a bad job, but they misspoke the creator of the games meddles calling her Jenifer Picton, rather than Jenifer Pighin. So the announcer lady might want to try and get that one right next time, because who wants that kind of mistake from someone butchering her name at what would be, I would assume, her proudest moment.
