Prince George, B.C.- While spectators take in the action of athletes conquering snow and ice during the Canada Winter Games, the Exploration Place will be celebrating the real ‘Ice Age’ with a special exhibit.
The ‘Mammals of the Ice Age’ exhibit, produced by the Canadian Museum of Nature, opens today at the museum.
From castings of a wooly mammoth skull to being able to touch an authentic mammoth tusk, the exhibit takes you way back in time.
Some of the animals featured look familiar, although their sizes seem a bit out of whack. ‘Bucky’ the beaver, is a made to scale replica of the type of beaver that existed during the last ice age. In the photo below, it is clear that when standing on his hind legs, ‘Bucky’ could easily stand 5’ tall. Assistant Curator Alyssa Tobin is 5’2” and ‘Bucky’ is nearly her height!
The centre piece of the exhibit is a casting of a 15 thousand year old Mastadon.
The Exhibit will be at the Exploration Place in Prince George until the end of June.

Reminds me of the Beringia museum in Whitehorse.
I think this might be the best part of the games.. Getting a great new exhibit for Exploration place. I know when I visit another city these are the type of things top of my list to go and see.
