Gas Thief At Work in Quesnel
Quesnel, BC – RCMP in Quesnel are advising the public about a recent string of thefts of gas from vehicles. During the past 3 days RCMP have responded to 6 thefts or attempted thefts of gas from vehicles.
All of these thefts have occurred during the night. Of particular concern is that the culprits are using a drill to access the gas in the tanks. This is a dangerous process as fuel is almost always spilled on the ground, creating a fire hazard.
Just last month in Prince George, RCMP reported there had been eleven such incidents over a 4 week period in Prince George. As is the case in Quesnel, a hole had been drilled into the gas tanks to access the fuel. (see previous story)
While the targeted vehicles in both cases were Ford F-150 trucks, Sergeant Darren Dodge of Quesnel RCMP says there is no evidence at this point to indicate the same person (or persons) is responsible for the thefts in both cities.”We are very aware of the situation in Prince George and we are in contact with investigators there” says Sgt. Dodge.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to park their vehicles in a well-lit area, ensure they are locked, and report any suspicious activity.
Anybody with information on these or other thefts is encouraged to call the RCMP at 250-992-9211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Also found another interesting thing on a trip to Vancouver recently. When I filed up in Chilliwack the diesel price was the same as it is here in PG. My fuel light had just come on and I had a heck of a time stuffing in 90 bucks worth. two days later returned home and filled up when the fuel light came on and was over 110 bucks and turned it off as I could hear the fuel gurgling in the filler neck.
I know there is a temperature adjustment for fuel but it shouldn’t affect the fuel that much… or does it… or are we also being robbed every time we head to the pumps here in the north?
Slinky I have noticed with my diesel p/u GMC that if it is at a little slope one way or the other it can take a lot more fuel and also I have noticed when the fuel light comes on it varies up to 15 liters
If you don’t fill it too fast or pause it for a minute to let the foam dissipate in the tank before its right full, you can get more in. Diesel foams up a fair bit if it is pumped fast.
A slow or fast pump can affect this.
Hopefully the thieves create a spark and turn themselves into human torches!
sounds like candidates for Darwin awards . hope they win .
