Prince George- The driver of a chip truck, that allegedly blew a red light, striking a pickup truck, on Tuesday morning at the intersection of Central, and fifth is facing charges.
The crash, which occurred Tuesday morning, sent a man to hospital. His identity, and condition are not known.
The driver of the big rig, is facing charges of dangerous use of a motor vehicle, and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
He is scheduled to appear in court in April to face the charges.

What’s his name and who does he work for? Seems to me if he has actually been charged then his name should be able to be released and the company who hired him.
He’s not the first truck to be running red lights on the bypass. You have to keep your eyes open as this happens quite often.
Can’t even call that atrocity a bypass. Brutal stop and go lights with no proper warning prepare to stop lights. Usually take Queensway from the Hart to go west, it’s usually faster compared to the “bypass”.

You are correct – which is why it hasn’t been called a bypass for about 30 years ;-)
No mention of Worksafe BC, I am sure they must be involved in this too?
Call it what you like. It doesn’t excuse the fact that the guy ran the red light.

Innocent until proven guilty! And what difference if the name is released or company involved, what are you going to do with that information anyway?
Well, its not a pleasant time for either the truck driver or the owner of the trucking company.
The driver of the semi, is in deep ka ka.
The company may have liability issues.
Don’t pay any attention to all the 4 wheelers that run red lights though because it’s OK for them ok. Trucks run red lights way more than any 4 wheelers ever do right? Trucks can stop on a dime so there shouldn’t be any excuse for them to run red lights now and then. 4 wheelers have a real tough time stopping at red lights because they are difficult to stop most of the time.
When did all you experts finish your defensive driving courses?
Did anyone here witness this crash?
Been here since 1980. Back then “The Bypass” was called “The Bypass” and it”s still called “The Bypass”.
Armchair quarterbacks are hilarious!
ka2014 Do I understand you correctly? You find it faster to go south on the Hart, head east on 16, then turn south onto Queensway and follow it back to 16 west? That seems like a huge detour.
Want to watch High Speed Big Rigs, you must drive the Resource Road also called Hwy 16 West, keep your Eyes on the Rear View Mirror and move to the Side
to let them pass unless you enjoy being tailgated.
The guy is a real prince, runs over the truck and doesn’t even have the common decency to stop and see how badly the pick up driver was hurt(or worse)and offer whatever assistance he could provide. I hope the cops got some breath and blood samples from this loser, can think of no other reason for him to leave the scene.
Earlier article says the police have not seen an increase in bad semi drivers and I say thank doG for that…. we have plenty enough as it is. Ones that think that it is an acceptable practice to blind other drivers with their high beams or consider throwing ball bearings at other vehicle windshields. Then there is the brainiac that takes a tire thump hammer to talk to another driver about signal light usage. Both rubber room material and should not have any driver’s license never mind a class 1 imo.
The exploits of the black logging truck driver has popped up here on a weekly basis, seems that it is just a matter of time before he runs over someone.
There you go again dodo. You completely lost the gist of my statement regarding high beams and ball bearings.
If you want to blind me with your high beams you can expect it right back at you. If you want to endanger my life while I’m riding my motorcycle you can expect a handful of ball bearings coming your way. Don’t like it? Use your bloody brains and wise up. You’re a fool!
Another concern in these type of accidents is vehicle maintenance. There have been stories on the news that when CVSE set up a check that as many as 25% of the rigs leave the inspection on a wrecker hook because they are not safe to be on the road.Pulled off the road for things like completely broken frames to only a single axle with working brakes. Many others can only leave after doing stuff that should have been done on a pre trip inspection, like properly adjusting the brakes.
Not a very nice thought that only about half the trucks inspected are allowed to leave without having to do something to their truck to bring it into compliance.
Dragon: You are absolutely right on all points.
Before the “Bypass” was put in, and I watched it being put in it bypassed the then business district of PG. Not to have the “Bypass” now, well, you can imagine what traffic in the “Old Downtown” would be like.
The Cameron St. Bridge was quite busy then.
When you pull out on a green, part of any good driving course teaches you, look left, look right, and then left again as you put foot on gas. Had a good scare once in a while but haven’t been slammed in to yet.
By and large the driving community is good, always a few who don’t concentrate on the task at hand.
Drive carefully, lead by example and most important, send your kids through a defensive driving school.

“right on all points”? You sure? Including purposely blinding oncoming traffic with high beams and chucking potentially deadly objects at other vehicles?
I am sure that if Dragonknuckles employer knew the full extent of his aggressive driving that he would be standing behind yesterdays driver in the unemployment line. If one of these idiot deeds caused an injury or death they would be liable for millions.
The RCMP is supposed to enforce traffic infractions. However if ball bearing throwing works as another manner of enforcement I am glad to have invested big bucks in two cams: One looking forward, the other one to the rear! High resolution wide screen HD, wide angle lenses and equipped with night vision LEDs!
Guess I better get my two cents in. One trucker messes up and look at you all go. Thank goodness 250 does not post peoples trip to the doctor because that could trigger a nasty debate.
Thank you to all the hard working truck drivers who deliver safely almost everything I use on a daily basis. You all have a tough job.

Pure BS!
Hey dodo, maybe you should go back to elementary school and study reading comprehension and context. I understand trolls never did learn these skills while living under their bridges

If I had collected all the dunnage that was not properly secured to semi’s and fallen on to the side of the road over the years I would have enough to build an addition on the house, and that is just the shoulder collect the stuff that made it all the way to the ditch and could build a twin to the WIC downtown.
Looking at the calendar it is almost”watch out for lowbed season” Head to the bush, roll the equipment on and slap on a few chains and hit the road. First frost heave and all the mud and rock that was not cleaned off of deck and tracks becomes airborn creating hazard for vehicles travelling in both directions.
Call the tv station they would have the footage in their archive, would be a good thing to show at safety meeting -if you have them. I know that about half of pre trip inspections consist of a walkaround the truck to pick the best place for the morning wiz before setting off.

LMFAO!
Just an observation, the most commonly misspelled word on this site is “lose”.
Sparrow, come on now. I was referring to his earlier post. Didn’t see his newest one. The last thing I’m going to do is blind someone. I keep my lights dim and watch the shoulder, if they don’t dim theirs. Not in to playing the high beam game, could cost a life.

I figured as much. People who would condone such actions would be few and far between. To me it is a form of road rage and anyone caught doing such despicable acts should feel the full weight of the law.
Sounds almost like two people were at fault in this accident, the truck driver who didn’t stop for a red and the pickup who didn’t notice him coming through, unless the pickup was well across the intersection and the truck ran a really red light.
I always scan the cross traffic when their light turns amber, to see if anyone coming isn’t slowing down for the red. I’ve saved myself a few times with that.
When he didn’t stop one wonders what he was thinking… its not like there was not any witnesses, not like it wouldn’t be hard to track down what truck it was through the mills and trucking companies… and then the whole issue of having some integrity and manning up when one is involved in something as dastardly at this.
If it was my employee, or I was human resource, then the driver would never work for the company again regardless of what happened in the accident scenario.
When one doesn’t have the integrity to remain at the scene of an accident involving others, when they can not own up to damaged equipment and leave it for others to discover, and when their trust can not be counted on as a representative of the company… then they are a huge liability because of the unstable and evasive unaccountable type of behavior. People with no integrity are best removed as soon as possible… problem is often they are hard to detect until they are in the situational conditions where their integrity can be tested.
I would say this driver has failed miserably… had he stopped and owned up to his mistake… first on the scene working to mitigate the damage done, then his outcome would be vastly different than it likely will be now.
There are people in all walks of life that have low to no integrity, and the only difference between this driver and them is that they have yet to be found out and exposed yet.
There is something hilarious in a post where a guy writes about having his “life threatened” and then goes on to say he would perform actions that actually increase the danger to his life. It is even funnier when he then goes on to call someone else a fool that should wise up and use their brain.
Some countries have this already. It may be useful to investigate the installation of large digital displays beside the green/amber/red traffic lights on the Bypass. The display shows the time remaining until a light changes. It is called a count down display. Drivers would know exactly how much time is left and can adjust their driving accordingly, meaning to get an opportunity to come to a safe stop. The Bypass is a prime location for such a project as loaded logging and chip trucks can’t stop on a dime. Don’t wait until there are fatalities. The technology exists!
Not a bad idea Prince George. But I would be concerned that some, if not many, drivers would treat the count down as a challenge, and turn it into a potentially deadly race!
In the early 90’s the hand on the crosswalk sign would flash 13 times before the traffic light would change to amber. Very useful to determine if you had time to make it through the intersection or come to a safe stop. Does this still apply?
