Ice Oval Season Officially Over

Prince George, B.C. – While it was iffy during the Canada Winter Games, the Prince George Ice Oval Society has declared the outdoor ice oval season officially over.
This season for the ice oval will go in the books as the shortest season ever for the venue.
The oval was open just 9 days in December.
Preparations for the Long Track Provincial Speed Skating Championships and thawing meant the oval was only open for 10 days in all of January and February, well, that was pretty much a total write off as preparations for the Canada Winter Games and thawing meant the oval was only available to the public for one day in the entire month . As we all know, the Long Track speed skating events had to be moved to Ft. St. John’s indoor oval at the Pomeroy Centre.
As for March, the oval was open for a whole three days,.
In all, the Ice Oval was open all of 23 days this winter.

Time to invest serious money to make the oval worthwhile
Its too bad because it could be a great place to teach young kids how to skate on a drop in day. Seems to be a lot of effort they put into it, and to have it dependent on weather is a bit of tough luck as it sits now.
