Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars are up a game in their BCMML semi-final series with the South Island Royals.

The regular season champions scored a convincing 5-0 victory over the Vancouver Island club at the Kin 1 arena to climb into the driver’s seat in the round two match-up.  The first period was scoreless and resembled the feeling out period between two boxers, although each team had a couple of good scoring chances which were thwarted by Griffen Outhouse in the Cougars’ net and Royals’ goaltender Austin Roden.

However the Cougars cracked it wide open with a four-goal second period, Chase Dubois led the way with a goal and two assists, with the other second period markers coming from Darren Hards, Austin Gray and Steven Jandric.  Mitchell Williams capped it off with the lone tally of the third period as the Cariboo Cougars took game one of the best-of-three series while Outhouse recorded the shutout.

Game two goes at 1 this afternoon at Kin 1.  A Royals victory would force a third and deciding game Sunday morning while a win by the Cougars sends them to the final.
